CONNEGTING LINK.
Application filed March 10, 1925. Serial- No. 14,536.
To all whom-it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, FRANs B. WENDEL, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Cranford, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Connecting Link, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. 7 V
This invention relates to jewelry and has particular reference to a connecting link for attaching the extremities of chains, beads, necklaces or the like to the clasp elements or other devices constituting a part of an article of jewelry.
Heretofore the extremities have been connected to the clasp elements or other devices I by split links, the ends of which are soldered together, which practice has been found to be extremely expensive, and to require an undue amount of time and labor. It is therefore the prime object of the present invention to provide means in the nature of a connecting link which eliminates the necessity of soldering and hence reduces the amount of time and labor and the expense incurred in effecting a connection between the terminals of articles of jewelry and the clasp elements.
Vv ith the above recited and other objects in View, reference is had to the following specification and drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention which is in no way intended as a limitation upon the scope of the appended claim as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claim may be resorted to when found expedient.-
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the connecting links attached to a clasp element or analogous device. 7
'Fig. 2 is a side view illustrating one of the connecting links having its split eye opened a upfor attachment to the clasp element and with the other link having the split eye in closed position.
Fig. 3 is a detail enlarged side view of a connecting link illustrating the same respectively 1n full and dotted lines in its closed and opened up positions.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference A designates a; multiple strand bracelet, necklace or other article, of jewelry and B and C the separable clasp elements is normally spaced from the periphery of the integral closed eye member 10 whereby the link may be readily connected with the perforated lugs D' of the clasp elements or other devices B and C. After the eye member 11 is engaged with the perforated lugs D, the split open eye member 11" is bent or circumferentially contracted to close the terminal 12 against the periphery of the closed eye member 10 so that the connection between the terminals of the article A and the lugs D of theelements l3 and C is effected without the necessity of-soldering. It is therefore obvious that in the event it becomes necessary to replace the wit a new one as is frequently the case, it isonly necessary to open up the split eye member 11 to effect the disconnection.
From the foregoing it will thus be seen that an extremely simple and inexpensive. yet highly efiicient connecting link has been devised for the purpose specified.
I claim: A link stamped from a. thin flat sheet or metal and comprising a closed eye portion and an open eye portion integral with each other, the terminal of the open eye portion being adapted to be bent into contact with the closed eye portion.
I FRANS B; WENDEL.
