Patented Sept. 8,1874.

V WITNESSES ATTBBNEYS.
Tias smmxc co. muTo-Ll-rn UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPHUS REIMERS, OF LOWDEN, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BURGLAR-ALARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,907, dated September 8, 1874: application filed July 25. 1874. I
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ADoLPHUs REUTERS, of Lowden, in the county of Cedar and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Burglar-Alarm,.of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view, Fig. 2 a side View, and Fig. 3 a top View, of my improved burglaralarm, shown as applied to a door or Window.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents the base-block of my burglar-alarm, made of any suitable shape or material, preferably of oblong shape with semicircular cross-section, as indicated in the drawing. A rectangularly-projecting arm, B, or other suitable device, is applied to the rear side of block A, to be placed between the top part of the door aud casing, or on the Window-sash, or in such suitable position that theslightest motion ofthe door or Window may produce the dropping down of the block, and thereby the release of the parts for giving the alarm, which are arranged at the front side of the block A. They consist of a springhammer, C, a projecting pin, D, for setting the hammer end thereon, and one or more paper percussion-caps, which are held by a bandspring, E, firmly on the block or'anvil A. The dropping of the device releases the hammer and discharges the percussion-caps, the detonation of which gives the alarm. For charging the block the spring-hammer is raised by means of a ring, a, out of its guides b, and placed sidewise of block A; the paper cap is then inserted under the fastening-spring E, and the hammer carried back and set into position on the pin, the alarm being then ready for use.
When it is desired that the alarm detonation should be louder, a larger instrument, With several caps, may be used, the bindingsprin gand hammer being enlarged correspondiugly.
The alarm device is of very simple, cheap, and perfectly harmless construction, and dispenses with the powder-charged and other complicated alarms.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters The combination, with base A, of arm B, spring-hammer C, projecting pin D, and handspring E, relatively constructed, arranged, and applied as and for the purpose specified.
AD OLPHUS REIMERS.
