Be it known that T, dor-1N J. DUKET, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Toledo, Lucas County, hio, have invented new and useful Container-Upening Tools, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to receptacle opening` tools.

This invention has utility when incorporated in a lever or handle having a blade and an engaging lip.

Referring to the drawings liig. 1 shows a display card illustrating the device in use together with the manner ot mounting` the devices for display on said card, parts being broken away;

A display card 1 is shown as having a strap 9. with openings 3, 1, adjacent thereto, as a carrier for the tools of this invention which are shown as comprising a pair of side ribs 5 connected by a loop portion 6. Intermediate these side portions 5 and connecting said side portions or ribs is a webbing 7 terminating` in a lip 8 short of or adjacent the loop 6, thus leaving an opening into which may partially be inserted a bottle 9 having a seal 10 under which the lip 8 may engage with the loop 6 against the top thereof so that prying action occurs. lVth the loop G as the `tulcrum, the lip 8 as the work, and the handle 5, 7, as the power, there may be a lever simply eective for removing the cap as crimped or otherwise held in position upon the container or receptacle 9.

Remote from this lip 8 the handle has ofiset portion 11 as a second lip provided with a seat 12 therein. Projection 13 between the ribs 5 and rising from the web 7 is in the region of the seat 14 for a blade 15 which may be anchored by screw 16 to form an. extension for the handle or lever 5, 6, 7. A flat piece of hardened steel 17 inserted into the seat 12 of the offset lip 11 is by the single screw 16 anchored in operative position as a tulcrum when this blade is assembled with the handle. This blade 15 may have its pointed terminus forced through a sheetmetal top 17 oit a can 18 in such proximity to the side of this can that the blade 15 as directed by the offset lip 1,1 will ride close to the edge of the can.

1With this double-edged blade 15 as the work, and the hardened member 17 as the fulcrum, the power may be applied to the handle 5, 6, 7, in seesawing progress for closely trimming the lid 17 away from the edge of the can 18, thereby simply and neatly giving a full opening tor the can allowing neat and convenient removal of even onepiece contents therefrom. The rocking of the handle 5, 6, 7, may be directed away from the plane o'l' the side oi the can 18 for drawing the blade into position directly against the side of the can 18. The completed article at this oiipset lip 11 which serves to conveniently direct the blade as to the can has a turther function in providing a simple display mounting support for the article by inserting the lip 11 through opening 1 under strap 2 to position at opening 3 with the blade 15 over this strap 2. The webbing section 7 is shown as deined from the lip 8 and the seat 14 so that in practice this portion 7 may be a substitute part in the manufacture for advertising or identification data cast therein.

The feature ot the ulcrum and its can edge coaction while effectively taken care oit by the ulcrum 17 may in some instances be advantageously handled by departing from the contour ot the :tulcrum 17. Tn 5 there is shown a convex fulcrum 2O which would tend to direct the can edge either toward or away from the blade as the handle may be manipulated. F or varying the resistance to such shifting there may be provided a. concave tulcrum 21 of Fig. 6. Similar action to that of the fulcrum 2O may be experienced by cylindrical 'ulcrum 22 of lTig. 7. Tn Fig. 7 there is also shown instead ci the guide stud or projection 13 at the seat 14e a screw 23 which, with the screw 16, completes the holding of the blade 15 as to the handle.

There is accordingly as herein disclosed a lever tool with cont hier engaging lips tor coaction iny lever operation in permitting access to bottle or can containers.

The fragmentary tool shown at the left on the card in Fig. l embodies a blade 24: sharpened on one side only. This tool is such that it may be satisfactorily operated even without -a fulcrum and without the tilting to bring it into proximity with the side of the can in cutting.

What is claimed and it is desired to secure by United States Letters Patent is l. A tool handle embodying a loop and ribs extending therefrom provided with a web filler therebetween extending to provide a pair of seats, a fulcrum in one of said seats, and a blade mounted in the other seat to'hold the fulcruni in its seat.

2. A tool handle embodying a loop and ribs extending therefrom provided with a web filler therebetween to provide a fulcrum seat, a fulcrum in said seat, and extension means from the filler forming a blade.

3. A tool handle embodying a loop and ribs extending therefrom provided with a web filler therebetween and extension means from the filler forming a blade remote from the loop, said handle being offset to provide a symmetrically pointed guide lip laterally spaced from the blade, said offset providing` a seat, between the ribs and a removable fulcrum in the seat. t

4. A tool handle having an extensibn lip, said handle provided -with seats, one of which is in the lip, and one in the handle portion, a fulcrum mounted in the lip seat, and a blade mounted in the handle seat and extending therefrom over the fulcrum to anchor the fulcrum in position.

5. A tool handle embodying a loop, ribs extending therefrom, and a web between the ribs terminating in one direction in an offset to provide a lip, the offset lip being pro vided with a seat, a fulcrum in the o'l'set seat,`a blade engaging the handle web between the ribs and extending along the o'i'- 45 set lip to engage the fulcrum, and a screw for anchoring the blade to the handle and thereby mounting the fulcruin in position.
