Description

May 9, 1950 J. R. MURPHY COMBINATION DRAWER PULL AND CROWN CAP FULLER Filed March 20, 1947 INVENTOR. Ji/Mes /z/,erjar BVM wf Patented May 9, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMBINATION DRAWER PULL AND CROWN CAP PULLER 1 Claim. 1
The invention relates to a combination drawer pull and crown cap puller, and consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described. The device is fixed to the front end of a drawer and is used to pull the drawer out and close it, and is also used as a cap puller for bottles provided with crown caps of the type commonly used in connection with bottled beverages.
For the purpose of aiding in the explanation of the invention I show in the accompanying drawing and hereinafter describe one practical embodiment of it. It is to be understood, however, that this embodiment is presented merely by way of illustration and that the specific showing and description of it are not to be construed in any fashion as limiting the appended claim short of the true and comprehensive scope of the invention in the art. There are of course numerous ways of performing the mechanical features of the invention of which I have shown but one.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a sectional view on line A-A in Figure 2.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the back plate of the device.
Figure 3 is a view in side elevation, and illustrating a fragmentary neck of a bottle with the cap thereon in position in the device to remove the cap from the bottle.
Figure 4 is a front elevation of the complete device.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
Referring to the drawing, the device comprises a back plate l having an inclined portion 2 having within its length a depression 3 of sucient depth to permit a portion of the crown cap seat itself therein, see Figure 3.
The pull portion 4 of the device is of suitable configuration and is secured to the back plate in any suitable practical manner, such as spot welding or otherwise. The device is provided with perforations 5 for the reception of screws or rivets to fasten the device to the front of a drawer.
The pull portion 4 is provided with a longitudinally extending inturned edge 6 adapted to engage the cap as at 1, see Figure 3.
The cap is limited in its endwise movement by means of the integral downwardly extending portions 8 and 8 of the pull portion 4.
It will be noted that the inturned edge 6 of the pull is positioned above and forwardly of the depression in the back plate so that the crown cap may be easily placed in the device to decap the bottle. It will be further noted that the cap cannot move rearward or slip upward in the decapping operation.
The neck of the bottle is shown fragmentary with a crown cap thereon in Figure 3 et 9.
From the foregoing it is believed that the objects and advantages of my invention may be readily understood by those skilled in the art without further description, it being borne in mind that the back plate of the device prevents the cap from coming directly into contact with the wood or other material used in the construction of the front of the drawer, and prevents the cap from' damaging or digging into the surface of the drawer.
Manifestly, therefore, the invention is simple, durable, and economical in construction, is readi- 1y attached to the drawer front, and the crown cap is easily removed from the bottle when placed therein.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have described the principle of operation of my invention, together with the device which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the device shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
In a combination drawer pull and crown cap puller, a back plate adapted for attachment to the front part of a drawer or the like, having within its length an inclined plane extending downwardly and inwardly toward its lower extremity and having formed therein a transversely extending indentation of angular configuration adjacent its lower extremity, a transversely extending outwardly bent pull portion having closed ends connected to the back plate and coextensive in length with the angular indentation in the l back plate and having an edge inwardly bent JAMES RUPERT MURPHY.
