This invention comprises novel and useful improvements in door knobs, and more particularly pertains to a door knob having a crown bottle cap remover thereon.

An important object of this invention is to provide a door knob which has a crown bottle cap remover mounted thereon, and which combination door knob and bottle cap remover is adapted to be mounted on a door actuating rod and which will consequently be disposed at a convenient height for use.

Another object of this invention is to provide a combination door knob and bottle cap remover which is of simple construction, and which may be readily manufactured, and which combination knob will have an efficacious appearance.

Various important features of this invention reside in the provision of a door knob which includes an enlarged portion having a sleeve portion formed integrally therewith, and which sleeve portion is adapted to be mounted upon a door actuating rod, and which enlarged portion has a recess in the face thereof which is disposed perpendicular to the sleeve portion, with a crown bottle cap remover disposed in the recess.

These, together with various ancillary objects and features, are attained by this device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective elevational view of the combination door knob shown mounted upon a door; and

Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of the combination door knob and bottle cap remover, shown mounted upon a door.

Figure 3 is a top plan view of the device.

I-Ieretofore bottle cap removers were customarily mounted on walls and on the molding and casings of doors and windows, and when so mounted they generally detracted from the appearance of the surface to which they were attached. It is a desideratum of this invention to provide a bottle cap remover which may be mounted upon the door lockactuating rod in a convenient position for use, and which, when so mounted, will have an efiicacious appearance.

Referring now more specifically to the accompanying drawings wherein like numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, it will be seen that the combination door knob and bottle opener, indicated generally by the numeral l0, includes an enlarged portion l2 and a reduced portion 14, preferably formed integrally with the enlarged portion.

Alternately, the bore l6 may be internally splined, so as to receive the correspondingly splined actuating rod, in the event that externally splined rather than threaded rods are utilized. As is well known, rotation of the rod I8 upon its longitudinal axis actuates the door lock mechanism, indicated generally by the numeral 20, disposed in a door 22, the rod l8 extending through an aperture 24 in the door. As is also customary, a suitable face plate 26 may be attached to the door 22.

The enlarged portion l2 of the combination door knob 10 may be of any configuration, but it is preferred that one face such as 28 lie substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the knob, and which face is provided with a recess 30 to receive the crown bottle cap remover 32. In this manner, it will be appreciated that the bottle cap remover will not detract from the appearance of the door knob, and since door knobs are customarily located at convenient heights, the bottle opener will also be disposed in a convenient position for use.

The bottle cap remover 32 includes a perimetric wall 34 which is adapted to be snugly received within the recess 30, the upper portion 36 of the wall 34 having a downwardly extending flange 38 formed integrally therewith and adjacent the outer edge thereof for engagement with the lower edge of the rim of a crown bottle cap. An car 40 projects upwardly and inwardly from the lower portion 42 of the perimetric wall 34, which lug is adapted to engage the top of a crown bottle cap and provide a fulcrum about which the bottle is pivoted to remove the cap. It will be appreciated that since the crown bottle cap remover 32 is disposed perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the knob H], the force exerted when removing a cap from a bottle, by engaging the lower edge of the skirt portion of the cap underneath the flange 38 with the top wall of the cap pivoting about the ear 40, will be substantially parallel to the axis of rotation, and consequently the tendency to bend th actuating rod is materially reduced.

The bottle cap remover 32 may either be molded integrally with the enlarged portion l2 of the door knob In or, alternatively, may be fastened thereto by means of pins, such as M.

The sleeve portion M of the knob I0 may additionally be provided with a transverse bore 46, which will protect the bore l 6, and which trans- 3 verse bore may also be internally threaded to receive a set screw 48 which is adapted to be tightened against the actuating rod [8 to prevent relative turning of the knob and actuating rod.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the operation and construction of this device will be readily understood, and further discussion is therefore believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications will readily occur to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the foregoing specification and accompanying drawing, it is not intended to limit the invention to that shown and described, but all suitable modifications may be resorted to falling within the scope of the appended claim.

Having described the invention, what is claimed 4 outer end having a recess therein, and a bottle cap removing unit secured in the recess, the upper marginal portion of said outer end of the head and the adjacent portion of said unit being substantially synclinal and flush for centering the cap to be removed in said unit.
