Description

March 25, 1930. J. LOTZ JAR COVER REMOVER AND FASTENER Filed March 28, 1929 WITNESSES ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 25, 1930 UNITED STATES JOSEPH LOTZ, OF EUCLID, OHIO,
ASSIGNOR 01E ONE-HALF TO PHILLIP BECKER, J'R., OF
. GLEVELAN D, OHIO JAR-COVER REMOVER AND FASTENER Application filed March 28,
This invention relates to a device for applying and removing covers or caps from ars and like containers.
The principal object of the invention is 5 the provision of a device of improved construction, which may be attached to a suitable support or wall in fixed relation thereto, which 15 adapted to receive and effectually grip the cover or cap of a jar or-like container, while the latter is being turned, for the purpose of either securely applying or screwing the cover or ca thereon, or for removin or unscrewing he same therefrom, and w ich enables these operations to be accomplished without spilling the jar or container contents. 7
The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will appear when the following specification is read in connection with the accompanying drawing,
in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of the device secured to a wall, and illustrating the manner in which the device is used to remove the cover of the jar.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the device detached to clearly illustrate certain features thereof.
'Fig. 3 is a view of the device showing the interior thereof.
Referring now more particularlg to the drawing, it will be apparent, that t e device consists of an element 10 of metal, of cup shape, or more particularly in the form of a frustum of a cone of hollow construction. Said element 10 hasa wall 11 disposed in a plane at an angle with respect to the base plane of said element, or in other words, said wall 11 is out of erpendicular' to the 40 longitudinal axis of said element. The conical wall 12 of the element has a suitable number of ridges or ribs on the inside thereof, spaced equidistantly, which are triangular in cross section, and constitutes Shar jaws 13- 5 running the full length of said wall12. The wall 11 has holes 14: for the accommodation of suitable fastening elements such as screws 15, for the urpose of securin the element 10 to a suitab 0 support or wal designated 16.
60 It will be apparent that when the element 10 1929. Serial No. 350,761.
is properly secured the end of a jar or like container 17 having a cover or cap 18 screwed thereon, may be inserted into the element 10,
as shown in Fig. 1, that the cover or cap 18 may be pressed against the jaws 13 which will effectually grip the same, and that by turning the jar it will be possible tp readily loosen the cover or cap 18 when it 1s desired to loosen or remove the same, or said cover or ca 18 may be readily tightened on the neck 0 the jar in an equall easy manner when desiring to tightly seal t e jar.
It will also be apparent thatby having the wall 12 disposed in the manner set forth the element 10 will be disposed at an an le. bonsequently when the jar is full, t e liquid therein will be kept from spilling out of the jar in the cover or cap loosening operation.
I claim:
A container cover remover and fastener consisting of a hollow element in the form of a frustum of a cone presenting a conical wall, and an end wall dis osed in a lane at an angle to the lane of t e base of t e cone, said conical wal having spaced jaws in the form of cross-sectionally triangular ribs, said end wall having holes for the reception of fastening elements whereby to fixedly secure said element to a suitable support, and said jaws being adapted to grip said container cover in the removing and fastening operations.
