COMBINED CUP, FUNNEL,AND STOPPER-SECURER.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, AARON C. MOALPIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Guyton, in the county of Eflingham and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Oup,Funnel, and Stopper-Securer; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a combined cup, funnel, and stopper securer for use in connec tion with bottles containing liquids of any description, and it consists of certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which the same parts are indicated by the same letters throughout the several Views.

Figure 1 represents the improved device when used as a stoppersecurer, or for holding the stopper firmlyin place. Fig. 2 represents the device when used as a funnel, and Fig. 3 represents the device when used as a cup.

All three figures represent central longitudinal sections of the device.

A represents the bottle provided with the ordinary bead at around the neck thereof.

B represents a thimble-shaped cup, which may be made of metal, gutta percha, hard wood or other suitable material. This cup is provided on its interior with a coarse screw thread I) which may extend throughout the length of the cup as shown in the drawings,

or may be limited to a portion of the interior. This cup B is provided with a cylindrical aperture B in the bottom thereof, screwthreaded as at b so as to engage the screw 0. This screw 0 has a milled head 0 so that it may be conveniently turned by hand.

D shown only in Fig. 1 represents the cork or stopper for the bottle A.

When used as a stopper securer, or when simply attached'to the bottle for convenience of transportation and use, the device is applied as shown in Fig. 1. That is, the screw 0 is run out of the nut B a sufficient distance, and the cup B isscrewed down over the neck of the bottle until the head a engages the screw threads I). Now, if the screw 0 be screwed down to firmly compress the cork D,"

the cork will be secured in place against possible falling out or leakage, and at the same time the cup will be held firmly on the neck of the bottle. In order to detach the cup ease up on the screw 0 and unscrew the cup B from the neck of the bottle, when the device will be ready for 'use as a drinking cup as shown in Fig. 3.

In order to use the device as afunnel, simply take out the screw 0, and place the cup B on the neck of the bottle as shown in Fig. 2.

It will thus beseen that the herein described device provides an exceedingly convenient attachment for bottles containing medicine, liquor, and other articles ordinarily carried upon the person, or in ones baggage. It will also be seen that where bottles of wine or other liquid are to be kept for. a long period unopened, the herein described device furnishes an additional safeguard against the blowing out of the cork, or leakage through it, and moreover afiords a protection against the insects which destroy corks.

It will be evident that if the cup be affixed to the bottle, as shown in Fig. 1, and then melted rosin or sealing wax be poured into the base thereof, the bottle being in the meantime reversed, an exceedingly strong and durable seal will be provided; or the whole cup may be filled with plastic material, with the top open, and screwed down in place, and allowed to cool, the pressure being relieved by easing up in the screw 0. In this way an eX- ceedingly, strong, tight, and permanent seal may be obtained.

Having the cup B tapering as shown, enables the same cup to be used with difierent sized necks of bottles, and thus renders the herein described device specially adaptable for use where medicine and other bottles of various sizes are employed seriatim, one size of device being sufficient for many sizes of bottles.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by LettersPatent of the United States, is
