Be 1t known that I, ROBERT V. CARLSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Becker, in the county of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tube-Cleaning Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means for cleane ing the oil tube of the Ford type of motor, the general object of the invention being to provide means for clamping the tube to part of the crank case so that the tube can be sawed in half to permit the two parts to be blown out and then to provide a clamp for clamping the parts together.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel form of saw and a cleaner tube for cutting the tube and cleaning it out.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in` the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a motor showing the clamping bracket in position.

Figure 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a plan view showing the bracket holding the oil tube in place.

Figure A is a similar view showing the clamp, clamping the two part of the oil tube together.

Figure 5 is a side view of the clamp.

As is well known, it is a diflicult matter to clean the oil tube of the Ford type of motor when the same becomes clogged. It is necessary to either remove th-e transmis'- sion case when the tube is cleaned from the rear or the front part of the motor when it is cleaned from the front. This takes considerable time so that it is an expensive `10b. In my invention, the tube is cut into two parts so that the front part can be removed and cleaned and the other part blown out and then the two parts are connected together by clamping rings.

In carrying out my invention, I provide a clamp A which consists of two strips 1 and 2 slidably connected together by the rivets 3 which pass through the slots A in one strip, for clamping the oil tube, which is shown at B, to the edge of the crank case so as to hold the tube rigid while it being sawed by the saw, shown at C. The clamp A is provided with the notch 5 for engaging the tube and the notch 6 for engaging the edge of the crank case. The ends of the two strips are bent at right angles, and these ends are connected together by the screw 7 so that by turning the screw, one strip will be moved in relation to the other and thus the notches or recesses therein will be caused to grip the tube and the crank case. The saw C has a narrow blade 8 and a wooden handle 9 so that the tube can be easily sawed while it is being held by the clamp A. After the tube is sawed, the front part is taken out and cleaned and when the cleaner tube D has its bent end 10 pressed against the out end of the part of the tube left in the motor and a hose from a pump or the like is connected with the small end 11 of the cleaner tube, so as to blow out the oil tube. The bent end 10 is provided with a gasket 12 to insure a tight joint. After the two parts of the tube have been cleaned, the front part is connected with the other part by means of a clamping ring E which is provided with the screws 13 for clamping it to the two parts of the oil tube.

Thus the oil tube can be easily and quickly cleaned and the job will be an in-i expensive one.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to-be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I-Iaving thus described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters-Patent is 1. Means for cleaning an oil tube of an internal combustion engine comprising a clamp having a part for engaging the tube and another part engaging a portion of the crank ease so that the tube can be eut and the separate portions thereof cleaned, in combination With a sleeve-like clamp for clamping the tvvoportions of the tube t0- i gether after they have been cleaned out.

2. A clamp for Clamping an oil tube of an internal combustion motor to the crank ease of the motor comprising a pair of L- shaped members adjustably connected together, each member having a pair of notches therein for engaging respectively the tube and a part of the crank ease and an adjusting screw carried by the short arm of one L-shaped member and engaging the short arm of the other L-shaped member.
