Be it known that I, HoMnn A.A S'rnnir, a citizen of the United States, residing at 8011 Leroy Avenue, Rock Falls, in the county of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Game Devices, ot which the following is a specilication. i

My invention relates to that type ot game devices which comprise, generally stated, a board portion equipped at one end with a device adapted to be operated by the one playing the game, for projecting an object, as for example, a ring, miniature horseshoe, or other suitable object` toward the j opposite end of the board and relative to an clement, or mark, at this end ot the board, as for en ample an upstanding pin or pocket. j j

My object, generally stated, is to provide a novel, simple and inexpensive construction ot game device ofthe general type referred to.

Certain of my objects, speciically stated,

are to provide an improved construction ot projecting, or pitching, device, which may be manufactured economically and will op-` crate etl'ectually; to provide for the length ening and shortening of the board portion of the device, as desired; and to provide a combined `ringing-pin and support at one end of the board.

Thev game deviceA comprises a board portion, which may be constructed oit any suitable material, as for example, and as shown of sheet met-al, this board portion being formed of two telescoping sections 6 and 7, which are adjustable lengthwise ot each other. Each ot the sections 6 and 7 the section G being slightly narrower than the section 7, is provided at its opposite edges with downwardly and inwardly inclined flanges. these Yllanges being represented at 8 and 9, respectively, and telescoped with each other, as s hown in the assembled condition of the sections. The section 6 is shown as provided, adjacent its extreme outer end, with blocks 10, torming legs, upon which the board is supported at one end in spaced relation to a support, as for example a table upon which it may be set. i board is shown as supportedV through the medium of a combined ringing-pin and supporting member 11 which is shown asin the torni ot a peg having a headed portion 1Q at its lower end. The projector, or pitcher, hereinbefore referred to, comprises, in accordance with the preferred embodiment ot my invention, a plate portion 141-. connected, by a neck portion 15, with. a plate portion 16 extending substantially at a right angle to lthe portion 14, and terminating in a plate portion 17 extending generally parallel with the plate portion 14 but in the opposite direction trom the plate portion 16, and a cross bar 18 rigidly connected to theplate portion 17, as by rivets 19 and provided at its opposite ends with upwardly olset Vportions 20.

The projector device describedis assembled with the board portion ot the device to a position in which it extends at its neck portion 15 in a slo-t 21 located in the board section 6 and `extending',crosswise thereof, the plate portion 11i being llocated above the board portion and in its horizontal position extending rearwardly as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the remainder ot the projector device extending beneath the board section carrying it, with the bar portion 18 disposed in front ot the slot 9.1 in the normal position of the projector device, as shown in the :figures referred to, the bar member 18 being ot such 4length that it projects laterally at both ends, beyond the opposite edges of the board section 6, as shown, the lianges 8 being rlhe opposite end of the cut away, as represented at 22, to prevent interference with the operation of the projector.

The portions la, l5, 16 and 17 of the projector, are preferably formed from a single sheet of metal, in which case, and in order to permit of the assembly of the projector with the board, the metal of the section 6 is slit outwardly from the ends of the slot 2l along the angularly disposed lines 23 and 24, thereby forming a tongue 25 which majv be bent out of the plane of the board section G to present an opening through which the plate portion 14 may be inserted to the position shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3, whereupon this tongue is then bent back into the plane of the board section 6, to prevent dispiacement of the projector, while permitting it to be rocked at its neck portion l5, on the section 6 as a fulcrum.

rlhe portions of the projector are so proportioned, as shown that the projector device, at the portion thereof extending above the board, is heavier than the portion thereof extending below the board, so that the normal position of -the projector is that shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3.

In the use of the device, the object, such as the miniature horseshoe represented at 26, to be thrown toward the peg 1l, is positioned on the plate portion la as shown in Figs. l and 2, and is thrown thereby by the operator striking downwardly against either of the protruding ends 20 of the bar 18, which throws the plate number la upwardly and forwardly, carrying with it the object 2G, it being understood that the projector automatically returns to normal position (Figs. l, 2 and 3) after its operation, as above stated.

It will be understood from the foregoing that a projector device constructed in accordance with my invention is not only of simple and inexpensive construction, but is adapted to operate effectually, and is not liable to become out of order.

The feature of providing the adjustment of the board sections 6 and 7 lengthwise of the device, is of advantage in that it permits the user to vary the conditions of play.

While I have illustrated and described a particular construction embodying my invention, I do not wish to be understood as intending` to limit it thereto, as the saine may be variously modified and altered without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A device of the character set forth coniprising a board-portion and a pitcher-device. said board portion containing a slot and said device extending into said slot and fulcrumed on an edge thereof to rock.

2. A device of the character set forth,

comprising a board-portion and a pitcherdevice, said board-portion containing a slot and said device extending into said slot and fulcrumed between its ends therein, that portion of said device which extends beneath said board-portion extending laterally beyond said board portion for the purpose set forth.

3. A device of the character set forth, comprising a board-portion and a pitcherdevice, said board portion Containing a slot and said device extending into said slot and fulcrunied between its enus therein, that portion of said device which extends beneath said board-portion extending laterally beyond said board portion at opposite sides thereof, for the purpose set forth.

a. A cevice of the character set forth, comprising a board-portion containing a slot and a pitcher-device extending through said slot and fulcrumed on an edge thereof, said device presenting a portion, above said board, for engaging the object to be projected, and an actuating` portion below said board.

5. A device of the character set forth, coniprising a board-portion containing a slot and a pitcher-device extending through said slot and fulcrumed therein, said device presenting a portion, above said board, for engaging the object to be projected, and an actuating portion located below said board, said portions extending in opposite directions from said slot lengthwise of said boardportion.

6. A device of the character set forth, coinprising a board-portion containing a slot and a pitcher-device extending through said slot and fulcrumed therein, said device presenting a portion, above said board, for engaging the object to be projected, and an actuating portion located below said board and extending beyond the edge of the latter.

7. A device of the character set forth, comprising a board-portion containing a slot and a pitcher-device of general Z shape extending at its intermediate portion in said slot and atits end portions above and below,

said board portion.

8. A device of the character set forth, comprising a board-portion containing a slot and a pitcher device of general Z-shape extending at its intermediate portion in said slot and at its end portions above and below said board-portion with the portion thereof below said board-portion presenting a bar portion extending laterally beyond a side of said board-portion.

9. In a game-device` the combination of a board-portion containing an opening therethrough near one end, a combined boardsupporting and a game-pin member located in said opening, said member projecting upwardly and downwardly from vsaid board portion, supporting means for the board adviacent its other end and a projector on said hoard-portion comprising an operating eleinent movable below said board-portion.

In a game-device, the combination of a board-portion containing an opening therethrough near one end, a combined boardsnpporting and a game-pin member located in said opening, said member having its upper end of reduced cross-section at which 'wf portion it extends upwardly through said opening, supporting means for the board adjacent its other end and a projector on said board-portion comprising an operating eleinent movable below said board portion.

l1. In a game device, the combination of a board portion formed of sections relatively adjustable lengthwise thereof, and a projector on one of said sections for the purpose set forth.

12. A device of the character set forth, comprising a board containing a slot and a pitcher-device, having a neck-portion at which it extends into, and is fulcrumed in, said slot.

13. A device of the character set forth, comprising a board containing a slot and a pitcher-device, having a neclnportion at which it extends into, and is ulcrumed in, said slot, said slot being of less length than the width of the portions connected by said neck, with slits in said board extending from the ends of said slot and forming a de* iiectable tongue of a width greater than the length of said slot.

14. A device of the character set forth, comprising a board containing a slot and a pitchendevice, having a neck-portion at which it extends into, and is ulcrumed in, said slot, said slot being of less length than the width of the portions connected by said neck, said board being slit to provide a deiiectable portion which when deiiected presents an opening communicating with said slot and through which an end of said pitcher-device may be introduced to posi- Lion said neck portion in said slot.
