To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. CLARK, of Janesville, in the county of Rock and State of \Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invent-ion relates to an improved game device, which will be fully understood from the accompanying drawings through the figures and lettersof reference marked thereon.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my complete device. Fig. 2 is a detail.

My device consists of a frame composed, preferably, of four sides 1 l and 2 2 of about equal length and which are thin strips, preferably of wood, of about two inches in width and attached together at the ends by hinges 3 3 3,1eavin g one extremity of each of two sides 2 2 free, and when the device is in use it is placed on the base or bottom l or other fiat surface in the position shown, the free ends of 2 2 being held stationary by a brace 5, the same being a rod or wire, each end of which is bent downward at a right angle and inserted in a hole in the top edge near the free end of each of the sides 2 2.

In attaching the ends of the sides of the frame together by means of the hinges 3 said ends are drawn back from the joint of the hinge,so that a port 11 is formed between the approximate ends of said sides. About said ports upon the outside of the frame are placed pockets 8 S S, composed of sheet metal or other flexible material and attached to the sides of the frame in the following manner: In each end of the material forming the pocket is formed a notch 9,and upon the outside of the end of the pieces forming the frame is placed pin 10, with an enlarged head. Said notch 9 is just large enough to receive the body of said pin 10, which protrudes a distance equal to the thickness of the material forming the pocket 8, so that when said pocket is in place the ends slip beneath the pin 10 and are held in place thereby.

In Fig. l the frame is shown elevated above the base or bottom, but when the frame is placed in position for use upon said base the pins 6 enter the holes 6',formed in the bottom edge of the frame and indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, whereby said frame is held in place, and when the frame and bottom are used to.- gether the brace 5 may be dispensed with. Then the frame is used without the base or bottom 4, as it may be, said frame is placed upon a table or other level surface, in which case the brace 5 is placed in position,as shown.

The form of hinge preferred is shown at Fig. 2 and is so constructed that it will open no farther than the angle formed by the sides of the frame when in the position shown. Hence the placing of the brace in position makes the frame comparatively rigid.

By the construction above described it will be readily understood that when the brace 5 and the pockets 8 8 8 are removed the frame is foldable and occupies but little space, and hence is very convenient for shipping or laying away when not in use.

A projecting or shooting stick which forms a portion of my device is constructed as follows: A rack with two upwardly-projecting sides a a has grooves formed at the lowerinner face thereof. A projecting block 0 has at its base two latgyally-projecting flanges, which slide freely in said grooves 19 1). Attached to one end of the rack and the approximate end of the block 0 is an elastic strip, so that when the block is drawn backward in such a manner as to stretch said elastic d and then released it will fly forward with considerable force and momentum.

The game for which my device is particularly adapted is played as follows: WVithin the frame is placed a number of small balls or marbles, and in the shooting-stick (which is held substantially in the position shown) is placed a marble. The projecting block 0 is then drawn back and at the same time the end to which the elastic strip (1 isattached is tilted upward,so that the marble will follow the pro j ecting block and remain in contact therewith until the block is released. Before the said block is released the end is again tilted down to a level, the block then released, and the marble is shot against those within the frame with the purpose of driving them into the pockets.

2. A game device of the design herein shown and described consisting of the combination of a foldable frame composed of a number of sides which are attached together by hinges, end to end, at both ends ofall but two of said sides, one end of each of said two sides being left free, ports formed by the non-contact of the opposing ends of said attached sides, detachable pockets inclosing said ports upon the outside of the frame, a'detachable base or bottom upon which said frame may be placed and means for holding said bottom and said frame in the proper relative positions substantially as shown and described.
