WITNESSES:
O I INVENT/f A TTOBNE THE NORRIS PETERS co., wasuma'mn, n b
CLEVELAND G. DAVIS, OF MANISTEE, MICHIGAN.
GAME DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 11, 1906.
Application filed March 9,1906. Serial No. 305,099.
To all LUILU'III/ it 'lTMl/Z/ concern:
Be it known that I, CLEVELAND G. DAVIS a citizen of the United States, residing in Manistee, in the county of Manistee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Devices, of which the following is a speoification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to games; and the object of my invention is to provide a game which will be both interesting and amusing, and therefore capable of holding the players attention, while serving as a recreation for them, and which will teach the layers to be skilful in the coordinate use the hand and eye.
My invention consists of a single piece of sheet material the body portion of which forms an inclined plane supported upon lugs cut from two of the cornersand bent downwardly to form standards for raising the rear part of the body portion. Between the lugs,
but bent in the. opposite direction from the lugs, is a back-stop, which is cut into the shape of an animals head and formed with an aperture to indicate the open mouth of the animal, within which aperture is a lug projecting from the body portion and designed to form a rest for a marble or like object.
' In the drawings illustrating the principle of my invention and the best mode now known to me of applyingthat principle, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new game in position on a sidewalk. Fig, 2 is a sectional view along the line A A of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a rear elevation.
The body portion a, of sheet material, is supported in an inclined position by the lugs 12, which are formed by bending downwardly the upper corners of the sheet. the lugs b, but bent in the opposite direction, is a central plate 0, integral with the body portion a. This central plate 0 is cut into any desired shape and suitably figured. In
the drawings the central plate a is shaped to resemble in outline the head of a human being, and the front face of said plate is Between made to resemble a mans face. In the plate 2 c is formed an aperture d, which serves to indicate the mans mouth, and into this aperture projects from the body portion a lug e, which serves as a rest for the marble f.
The game is played by placing the device upon a floor, sidewalk, pavement, or other suitable surface and shooting at the marble f with the intention of hitting it. The cen tral plate 0 serves as a back-stop for missed shots.
The whole device is cut from one piece of sheet material and is comparatively inexpensive.
What I claim is l. A game device made up of a single piece of sheet material comprising a body portion having an uninterrupted surface which rests in an inclined position upon lugs struck downwardly one from each corner of one end of said body portion; a backstop integral with said body portion and formed with an aperture near its junction with said body portion, said back-stop projecting rearwardly and upwardly from said body portion and being centrally disposed; and a lug which projects from said body portion into said aperture and serves as a rest for a marble or like object.
2. A game device made up of a single piece of sheet material comprising a body portion which rests in an inclined position upon lugs struck downwardly one from each corner of one end of said body portion; an apertured back-stop centrally disposed between, said lugs and projecting upwardly from said body portion, said back-stop being shaped in outline to resemble the head of an animal and the front face of said back-stop being figured suitably to resemble the face of an animal; and a lug projecting from said body portion into said aperture and serving as a rest for a marble or like object.
