M FLEISHMAN WHEELED TOY DEVICE AND INCLINED SUPPORT July 10, 1951 Filed March '7, 1946 Patented July 10, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WHEELED TOY DEVICE AND INCLINED SUPPORT 1 Claim. 1
The object or" the present invention is to provide a wheeled toy incorporating a latch or brake device which will be operated by the impact and weight of a falling object in such manner that the wheeled element will roll down an incline.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing a form of the invention employing a ladder and a tumbling unit in conjunction with a wheeled element normally latched to an inclined support;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the support showing in dotted lines the bracket for holding it inclined, the ladder rails being shown in cross section;
Figure 3 is a perspective View, looking at the normally lower face of the support;
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing a suitable form of ladder;
Figure 5 is a perspective view showing a suitable form of tumbling unit;
Figure 6 is a view in side elevation showing the wheeled element on the support, a latch member being shown in both dotted and full lines, the area of the support which receives the holding end of the latch being broken away;
Figure 7 is a top plan view of the wheeled element.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown in Figure 1 an inclined support l, which, as shown in Figure 3, carries at its underface a pivoted supporting bracket 2, whereby the support can be inclined on a table or other surface. Also carried at the underface of support I is an angularly bent stop device 3 for the side rails of a ladder 4, which rails may pass through slots 5 in member I and then rest upon member 3.
The support I is provided with a slot at 6 adapted to receive the bent ends la: of a latch which is pivoted at 8 and which has an extension 1 in the form of a plate which closes the otherwise opened end area of the wagon or other 2 wheeled support 9 to which the latch is pivoted.
Upon the ladder is adapted to be placed a tumbling toy shown at E9 in Figure 5.
With the parts in the position of Figure 1, the wagon or other wheeled member will be held on the inclined support 1 by engagement of the latch with slot 6. When, however, the falling tumbling toy drops onto the plate area 1 of the latch, the weight and impact of the tumbling toy will rock the latch on its pivot, whereby the wheeled member will be released and will roll down the incline.
It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the form and arrangement of the elements employed in the construction il1ustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention, and what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent being as follows:
A toy device comprising an inclined support, a wheeled member adapted to be mounted on said support and open at its top, a pivoted latch device carried by the wheeled member and having an arm extending under said open top of the wheeled member, said latch device having a depending arm adapted for engagement with the inclined support for holding the wheeled member against gravitational movement thereon, the firstnamed arm of the latch device being adapted to receive the impact and weight of an object for swinging the latch to release the wheeled device.
MYRON FLEISHMAN.
