Patented July 2]., 1925.
UNITED sr PEDRO J. GALVENTO, OF MANILA, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS;
COMBINED MEIVLORANDUM-PMER HOLDER AND FOUNTAIN PEN.
Application filed March 5, 1924. Serial No. 697,096.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Pnnno J. CALVENTO, of Manila, Philippine Islands, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Combined Memorandum-Paper Holders and Fountain Pens; and I do here by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in a combined memorandum paper roll holder and fountain pen.
An object of the invention is to provide a fountain pen having a handle portion adapted for engagement at both ends with one end of a casing carrying a roll of memorandum paper adapted for use as desired sothat when engaged with one end of the handle portion the casing completes the handle of the fountain pen and when engaged with the opposite end the casing will form a protecting cap for the pen point.
The invention comprehends other objects and improvements in the details of construction which are pointed out in the following description and claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view of the pen and casing in handle forming position. Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the invention with the parts positioned as in Figure 1. Figure 3 is a longitudinal section showing the casing in position to protect the pen point.
1 indicates a handle portion of sleeve like formation closed at one end as indicated at 2 and internally threaded at the other end as indicated at 3 to receive the reduced threaded end 4 of a nipple 5 carrying the pen point 6 and the ink reservoir which extends and is housed within the handle portion 1 as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings. The handle portion 1 is provided at 7 with a cylindrical threaded portion of the same diameter as the threaded portion 8 of the nipple 5 adapted for co operation with the internally threaded recess 9 of the casing 10 forming a holder for a roll of memorandum paper. This casing 10 is provided with a slot 11 through which the paper may be drawn and receives a cap 12 at the outer end thereof which is removable secured to said casing in any suitable manner to permit the insertion of a roll of paper in the casing. A clip 13 is secured to the outer surface of the casing for holding the pen in the pocket when not in use in a well known manner.
In the position shown in Figure 1 the oasing 10 cooperates with the handle portion 1 to complete the handle of the pen to make the same useful for writing purposes and at the same time memorandum paper may be withdrawn through the slot 11 as desired and torn oil to be used for the reception of a memorandum or other intelligence as may be desired. When the pen is not in use the handle portion 1 is removed from engagement with the casing as shown in Figure 1 and the opposite end having the threads 8' similar to the threads 7 is inserted into the recess 9 and engaged with the casing so that the casing will then act as a protecting cap for the pen point in cooperation with the handle portion 1. It is to be observed that frictionall'y engaging surfaces may be used in place of the threads 7 and 8 for cooperation with a similar surface in the recess 9 without departing from the scope of the invention. In this way a fountain pen and memorandum paper carrier are combined into a single instrument the parts of each cooperating with the parts of the other to render the instrument useful and yet form a simple and compact structure occupying about the same space as that now occupied by an ordinary sized fountain pen.
It will be noted that the end of the casing 10 formed with the threaded recess 9 defines with the handle portion 1 a finger grip. It will be further evident that the handle portion 1 is adapted toembrace the ink reservoir at its ends thus preventing any tendency of said reservoir to move laterally within the handle portion and become separated from the reduced end of the nipple 4.
I claim as my invention:
A holder for i'nemorandum paper forming an extension handle and cap for fountain pens and comprising a casing having a bore extending therethrough, one end of said bore being abruptly reduced to provide a shoulder between said reduced end and the remaining portion of the bore, the r duc ed portion of the bore forming means for attaching the casing to one end of a fountain pen to form a handle and to the other end to form acap, said reduced portion being of such length as to completely 3 house the pen point When connected to the pen to form a cap whereby said point will not project into the larger portion of the bore, the larger portion of the bore being PEDRO J. GALVENTO.
