Description

.To all whom it may] concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEICE.
WILLIAM A. r. LA ,GRovnoE NEW YORK, N. Y., AssIeNoR To HIMsELE AND HENRY E. WERB,oE NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
l IMPROVEMENT INAUVTCMATIC TOYS.
l Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,554, dated September 1, 1874; application filed f February 14, 1874.`
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM A.' BLA' GROVE, of -`the city and .State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Toy Dancers, of which the following'is a specitication:
Thistoy dancer is made with arms that are revolved by clock-work below a platform 5' and at-the ends of the arms are vertical spindles,-
passing up through a circular slot 'in the platform and receiving igures, and the iigures an spindles are revolvedas they are carried around by means of a standing cordv provided with a spring, and placed in the grooves of pulleys upon the spindles. This construction andarrangement cause the iigures to move around,
as in waltzing, and the are cheap and durable.
In the drawing, Figure l is an elevation of parts, being simple,
the apparatus, the basebeing in section, and
Fig. 2 .is al planwith the top of the base forining the platform removed. l A
A vertical stud, a, is secured centrally within the box b, 'forming thebase of the dancer,
and-c is a circular platform secured to and supported by this stud a; and this is within a circular opening in the top c of the box, the snr- 4faces of c and c forming the imitation dane;
is of Vany desired character, a spring being used as a motor, and a balance or fly wheelor flier being used to regulate the speed. The sheave r and tightenersprng s serve to keep the proper tension on the cord It, and by these A means the dancersi and uare moved around bodily; but, in order that u and i may waltz,
each spindle e is provided with .a grooved pul' ley, c, around which the standing cordt is` are revolved .by their grooved pulleys c rollin g against the cord t, to make the iigures u andi waltz.
.A stop, w, shifted by hand, is used to check "the spindles e, that extend up through ac'ircu` lar slot in the platform and carry the dancing iiguresu and i, in combination with the grooved cord t, substantiallyas' pulleys 'c and standing set forth.
Signed by me this 10th day of February, D. 1874.
