GAMING AND AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1916.
Application filed June 7, 1915. Serial No. 32,738.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JISAKU KoDAMA, a
subjectof the Emperor of Japan, residing at Coronado, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have inventedv certain new and useful Improvements in Gaming and Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a gaming and amusement device in the form of a merrygo-round, the winning of the prize being dependent upon the device stopping at a particular place or places and it is also adapted for use as a toy for the amusement of children. I
The objects of my invention are: First, to provide a device of this. class in which the figures for revolution may be horses, automobiles, boats, human figures and the like and are interchangeable; second, to provide a device of this class on the central post of which may bemounted a plurality of spiders with diiferent characters on each spider; third, to provide a device of this class in which the base portion may be used as a portion of the casing and whichis provided with a cover forming a casing for the device; fourth, to provide a device of this class which may be operated by hand or with a motor if desired; and fifth, to provide such a device that is simple and economical of construction, durable, easily installed and easily operated.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novelyfeatures of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described in 'detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this specification, in which Figure 1, is a perspective view of my device with some of the figures shown mounted thereon and with the cover removed, Fig. 2, is a fragmentary sectional View of the same, Fig. 3, is 'a perspective viewof the cover for the device,'and Fig. 4:, is a perspective view of a device for, operating thesame by hand. a 1 7 Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views. Thebase piece 1, disk 2, spider 3, spider 4, central post 5, clamp 6, figure 7, figures8,
figures 9, operating device 10, cover 11, and character piece 12 constitute the principal parts of my structure.
The base 1 is in the form of around box provided with a bottom 1 which is '"provided with a central lug bearing l and with upwardly extending annular portion 1 which is provided with a cut-away portion l adapted for, the cover 11 to fitpover. Pivotally mounted centrally on the bottom in the bearing 1 and extending vertically therefrom is the central post 5 and rigidly secured thereto is a disk 2 which is preferably glass so that different scenery representing difi'erent amusements maybe secured to the lower surface and will show through said glass and on the inner surface of the wall 1 and secured-thereto is the annular piece 12. which is provided with a row of characterspreferably numbers and p it is supported by means of theannular piece 1 on the inner surface of the wall 1. Secured to this central post 5, and above the disk 2,'is the spider 3 which is provided with a plurality of arms 3 preferably six in number. These arms 3 are provided with joints 3 adapted to allow the pivotal movement of the extended ends of the. arms 3 upwardly when desired. Mounted on the extended end of the arms are indicating needles 3 which are adapted to indicate the winning numberswhich are immediately below these needles, on the annular piece 12 as hereinbefore described. On each of the arms 3* are also secured the figure supporting devices which are adapted for supporting the figures 9 thereon and are made so-that the extended portion may be spread so that the figures to be mounted thereon,
may be readily placed and so, that thefigures are interchangeable for different kinds of. figures. The. spider 3 is secured to the post by means of set screws .3 so that the spidermay 'bereadily adjusted orremoved from the post entirely if desired. Above this spider 3 and similarly secured to said central post is another spider 4c. provided with a plurality of extended arms l preferably three in number. On'the outward extended ends of which are secured small strings or cables 4* upon which are suspended th'e figures 8 so thatwhen the post 5 revolves the figures swing thereon.
that they may be pivotally moved upwardly These 7 arms stare also provided-with joints 4? so slot 1 adapted to allow the insertion ofthe toothed end of the operating device 10.. This operatingdevice 10 is a U shaped piece provided with inwardly extending teeth 10 and with a compression spring l0 near the middle thereof tending to hold the teeth l0 apart.
In using the operating device the teethare pressed tlghtly against the disk near its therefrom, however, it is obvious that the device may be operated by means of a motor,
the belt and wheels secured to the central post 5 if desired. of the device is the cover 11 which fits down over the cut-away portion 1 of the base piece 1, thus forming a round box or casing for the device for inclosing the same.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to inolude in the purview of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction, there is provided a gaming and amusement device in the form of a merry-go-round; that the needle will indicate the winners by pointing to the characters onthe annular piece below; that the figures mounted onthe arms of the spider 4 are-readily removable so that other figures may be placed thereon of various kinds and "characters as desired;
that the figures suspended on'the arms 4* will swing with the revolution of the central post 5; that the figure 7 mounted on the upper end of the central post will revolve with said central post; that the operating device 10 provides simple means for spinning the disk 2; that the upper extended end of the device, including the spider 4 and clamp 6,
may be removed andthe figures removed from the spider 4 and the devicestill be a good and sufiicient gaming device; that the various figures on the same provide amusement with its operation, either for a gaming device or amusement as desired; that the device as a whole is simple and economical of construction, durable, easy of operation and the figures readily interchangeable and that the cover 11 incloses the device in a simple casing.
Having thus described my invention, what Mounted over the top I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r 1. In a. device of the class describedythe combination of a stationary annular base piece, a post centrally and revolubly mounted therein, a disk secured thereto, an annular piece secured to the inner surface of said base portion provided with an annular row of characters thereon, a spider secured above said disk adapted to revolve therewith, a figure representing. a racing device mounted on each of said arms and meansto: facilitate the revolution of said disk.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of stationary annular base, a disk revolubly mounted therein, a spider secured above said disk adapted to revolve therewith, a figurerepresentinga racing de-' vice mounted on each of said arms, means 1 to facilitate the revolution of said disk and another spider secured above said first mentioned spider-provided with a plurality of suspended figures thereon adapted to swin 8. In a device of the class described, the combination of a stationary annular base portion, an annular piece provided with an annular row of characters thereon, a disk revolubly mounted therein, a spider secured i above said disk adapted. to revolve there-- with, a figure representing a racing device. mounted oneach of said arms, means to fa-i cilitate the revolution of said disk, another spider secured abovev said first mentioned a spider provided with a plurality of suspended figures thereon adapted to swing, a
clamp piece mounted on the upper end of said central post provided with an out-. wardly extending lug and a figure mounted on said outwardly extending lug adapted to revolve with said post.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination of a stationary annular base portion provided with an annular-rowofi characters thereon, a disk revolubly mounted therein, a spider secured above said disk adapted to revolve therewith, a figure representing a racing device mounted on each of said arms, means to facilitate the revolution of said. disk, another spider secured above said first mentioned spider provided with a plurality of suspended figures thereon adapted to swing, a clamp piece mounted on the upper end of said central .post'zpro vided with an'outwardlyextending lag and. a figure mounted on said outwardly extending lug adapted to revolve with said post ures mounted thereon, indicating needles secured to the outwardly, extending ends of the arms of said spider pointing to the row of characters on said annular piece. 7
6. In a device of the class described, the combination of a round base piece, a vertical post centrally and revolubly mounted theresaid spider adapted to swing thereon with the revolution of said post.
7. In a device of the class described, the combination of a round base piece, a vertical post centrally and revolubly mounted therein, a transparent disk secured to said post, an annular piece secured to said base piece provided with an annular row of characters thereon, a plurality of spiders secured to said post above said disk provided with a plurality of figures mounted thereon indicating needles secured to the outwardly extending ends of the arms of one of said spiders. a
