fitting, comprising extensible locking members and adjustable set screws, whereby. a wedging locking action may be readily effected between a pair of window sashes and a window frame, substantially as hereinafter shown and described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a part of a window frame and corner portions of a pair of sliding sashes, including my improved locking device mounted in working position thereon.
Fig. 2 is a. vertical section transversely through the locking device on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation and sectional View of a modification.
The invention comprises an angle plate 2 having a pair of slotted posts 3 and 4, respectively, projecting upwardly from the top thereof. Posts 3 and 4: extend upwardly from diagonal corners of the rectangular top of plate 2 to permit one post 3 tobe placed opposite the runway 5 in window frame F and the other post 4: to be placed a substantial distance away from the vertical face of upper sash 7. Post 4 is provided with a slot 8 and a slanting closed top 9, and the flattened end of a locking bar 10 is pivotally secured within slot 8 by a bolt 11. A set screw 12 extends through top 9 of the post at a vertical inclination to serve as an adjustable stop for limiting the upward movement of locking bar 10. This locking bar has a screw-threaded stem 14 carrying a cylindrical extension 15 which is screw-threaded to permit it to be adjusted longitudinally so that efiective wedging engagement of the pointed end 16 there of may be had with the side face of the window sash. By shortening or lengthening said extensible locking member various inclined settings may be established according to any given condition or need, and set screw 12 may be adjusted and set to limit the free play of locking bar 10, or the set screwmay be used to positivelylock the member 10 in awedging positionagainst;vertical face 6. A lock nut 17 may be used on screwstem '14 to fix extension 15 in adjusted position upon screwstem 14:. Post 3 also has a slot 18,;a pivot bolt 19,
and a slanting set screw 20, these parts correspondmg to like parts on post 4:. However, post 3 is set at right angles to post 4:
to permit its pivotedllocking bar 21 to project at an inclination toward the vertical faceof runway 5 in window frame F. An adjust-able wedging extension 22 is also secured to pivoted member 21, and a lock nut 23 is used to fix it when adjustments have been'made. I g
In Fig. 3 I show a plate 2' having 5'. post 3, carrying a pivoted locking member 21 which is provided with a screw stem 1a and lock nut 23. Extensible member 22' has a channeled end 25 adapted to receive and hold a rubber friction cap 26.
Referring to Fig. 1, the fitting or plate 2 is screwed to the top rail 27 of lower window sash 28 closely adjacent the window frame. Locking member 21, which is pivotally connected to post 3, is then adjusted as to length so that it will incline upwardly to engage the window frame at the most advantageous angle adapted to promote an effectivewedging and locking action to prevent the lower window sash from being raised unless locking member is first lifted by hand and its angle changed. The upper sash is locked from downward movement by setting locking bar 10 upon post 4 at a wedging angle and limiting the play of said member by set-screw 12. The locking effect of either bar 2 or 21 may be permanently maintained by rotating screw 12 or 20 into engagement with its respective inclined bar. The slanting position of the set screw and the slanting top of the post places the head of the set screw in an accessible position, and the set screw is also placed at .substantially right angles to the bar to facilitate stop and pressure working relations and positive adjustment and setting of said parts.
What I claim is: j
1. A window lock, comprising a plate having posts carrying pivoted bars at right angles toeach other, a screw extension for each bar adapted to effect wedging engagement with a window frame and sliding sash,
and adjustable stop members adapted to limit the free play of said pivoted bars.
2. A Window lock, comprisinga plate having slotted posts, extensible Wedging'members pivotally connected with said posts," and set screws fixed at an inclinationrupon said posts opposite said pivoted members.
3. A Window lock, comprising a rectangular plate adapted to befixed to a sliding window sash opposite the Window frame for the sash, posts diagonally related upon said plate, pivoted bars mounted upon said posts, extensible edging members carriedby said bars, and set screws adapted to control the working position of said bars.
windowlock, Comprising an angle plate having slotted posts diagonally related upon the top thereof, a bar pivotally mounted within each slotted post, a screw stem extending from each bar, a cylindrical screw-threaded extension engaged with each screw stem, a lock nut for each extension,
and a stop and setscrew mounted upon each post opposite each-pivoted bar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
