This invention relates to a door framing device and has for an object to providea frame structure adapted to be fitted within a door opening for the purpose of forming a pattern to be used as a guide for setting the door jamb within which to hang the door.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of means whereby the door frame or ainb may be fitted and hung with exacting accuracy within its opening with a considerable saving of time and by a single workman without the aid of an assistant.
A further object is the provision of means permitting the adjusting of the door jamb fitting frame 'whereby to enable its use thereof for doors of various sizes.
A stillfurthe'r object is the construction of a simple and practical door fit-ting frame of this character including a carriage for supporting the frame adapted to support the frame for vertical swinging movement and embodying the use of a spirit level for use therewith thereby enabling the door frame to be hung along one ed e on a true vertical plane, which is of a light and durable con struction, efficient and reliable in performance and enabling the saving of consider able time by eliminating a great deal of the preliminary work involved in the hanging of the door frame, which is inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for whichthe same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction and combination of the various elements constituting the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming the invention, where in Figure l is a view in elevation with parts broken away and shown in section to illustrate the transverse adjusting means of the frame.

Referring to the drawings in detail, I provide a pair of door fitting framesections, each comprising a vertically. disposed side frame member 5 with'uppel and lower horizontally disposed sections 6 and -7 respecframe to be adjusted with respect to fitting door frames of varying widths. The sides of each of the horizontal members 6 and 7 which is arranged inside the other horizontal member is provided with ribs 8 extending longitudinally thereon adapted to slidably fit within channels 9 formed on the adjacent section. The side faces of each of the horizontal members 6 and 7 have scale markings 10 indicated thereon adapted to coact with the outer edge of the adjacent horizontal section so as to enable each end of the frame to be, evenly adjusted.
At the outer edge'of each of the vertical member of the frame 5 I attach longitudinally extending plates 11 forming flanges at each side of said members. Openings 13 are formed in such flanges at spaced intervals through which nails may be inserted to be driven into the door jamb for permanently supporting the frame in posit on therein.
Cut-out portions are formed at certain intervals in the flanges 12 in which are in serted plates l i having vertically extending slotted openings formed therein through which screws or the like may be inserted for securing the hinges shown in dotted lines at 16 in the proper position upon the jamb.
The adjustment of the horizontal sections 6 and 7 is accomplished by means of a shaft 17 rotatably mounted within one of the verticalsections 5 having bevel gears 18 at-each end thereof engaging similar gears 19 formed. at one end of horizontal screws 20 disposed in the adjacenthorizontal section and adapted to be threadedly inserted in.

extending vertically therethrough for receiving a screw 28 having a yoke 29 formed at its upper end upon which is pivotally supported a pin 80 extending laterally ,fromthe inner side of the framemember 5.
The screw 28 may be adjusted vertically with respect to the bracket27 by meansof a bevel gear 31 threadedly carried on the screw and provided with a'hub 32 recessed within the upper end of the bracket and arranged to freely rotate with respect thereto. The hub 32 is prevented from vertical movement with respect to the bracket by means of a set screw 33 extending through the bracket and inserted in an annular groove formed in the hub. A pin 34 extends laterally from one side of the bracket upon which is rotatably carried a' bevel gear 35 engaging withthe gear 31 and having an operating knob 36 formed thereon. By moving the knob 36 in a proper direction the gears 35 and 31 may be rotated whereby to raise or lower the screw 28 thus permitting the vertical adjustment of .the frame.
A screw 37 extends laterally from the inner edge of each of the vertical frame members 5 through slotted openings 38 formed therein and arranged for vertical adjustment with respect thereto by means of tightening nuts 39 carried on the screwand engageable with the frame. The outer end of the screw is adapted to be inserted in a slotted opening 40 formed in a. vertically disposed plate 41 having its upper end pivotally attached to a horizontal rod 42 extending between the legs 26 of the adjacent carriage. The lower end ofthe plate 41 is engaged by a set screw 43 arranged in a slotted opening 44 of an arcuate plate 45 likewise supported between the legs 26 of the carriage beneath the rod 42. The screw 37 is retained in adjusted position within the slot 40 by means of a wing nut 46.
This construction permits the vertical I swinging'movement of the frame to a lim ited degree as defined by the extent of the slotted opening 44 in the arcuate plate 45' and permits the frame to 'be secured in a true vertical plane in instances where the opposite legs 26 of the carriage may not be supported on a truehorizontal plane. Spirit levels 47 are arranged within thevertical frame members 5 to indicate the true vertical position of the frame. I I
It will be noted that the vertical members 5 of the frame are supported on the carriages above the center line thereof thereby caus-' ing the frame to be suspended naturally in a true vertical position by gravity. Rollers 48 are mounted, on the lower ends of the legs of the carriages enabling the. device to be readily moved from place to place.
In the operation of the device, the door frame is placed over the fitting frame and bythe proper manipulation of the crank 25 the door frame in which the door is to be fitted, maybe firmly carried for moving into thedoor opening so as .to be easily, quickly, and'accurately secured therein, thereby permitting thepositioning of the frame in a considerably less time and without the aid of an assistant and further enables the hinges tobe attached to the frame in a true vertical position so that whenthe door is hung thereon, the same will swing in a proper manner.
It is obvious that the (invention is susceptible of various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of the various elements constituting the same, without departing from the spirit or-scope of theinvention as hereinafter claimed, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled,

3.'In a device, of the class described, a pair of frame sections each includinga vertically disposed frame member having upper and lower horizontally disposed frame members arranged at the ends thereof, the horizontal members of each section being arranged for telescoping engagement with the horizontal members of the other section, a manually operable shaft rotatably arranged in one of said vertical members, screws arranged in said horizontal members adapted to telescopically actuate said member, gears operatively connecting the shaft with said screws, there being an indicating scale on the upper and lower horizontal members of each of said sections enablingt-he uniform adjustment for each of said members, carriages pivotally supporting each of said vertical members for vertical swinging movement, vertical adjusting means for the frame carried by said carriages, means connecting the frame to the carriages whereby to adjustably secure the frame in any portion of its swinging movement, and a plate arranged on the outer edge of each of the said vertical members opposite from the horizontal memhers with the edge of said plate extending beyond the sides of the members and having openings formed therein adapted to receive door fixture, attaching means whereby to secure the door fixture in door hanging posithe adjacent horizontal members for telescoping movement, means carried by one of the vertical members operatively engaging said first named means for telescopically adjusting said horizontal frame members, means for 'pivotally supporting said frame sections permitting vertical swinging movement thereof, and means carried by said supporting means adapted to secure said vertical sections of the frame in any position of its swinging movement. g
