UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM NAIDA, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY.
COLLAR BUTTON.
Application ledJanuary 25, 1924. Serial No. 688,532.
p and useful Improvements in Collar Buttons,
of which the following is a specilication.
'I' his invention relates to collar buttons and more particularly to a novel and improved means for retaining a collar butt-on to the shirt band so as to prevent its loss.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a collar but-ton and particularly the shank thereof with a pair of wings or tongues extending outwardly thereof so t-hat when the collar button is positioned and rotated a quarter turn, it may be thus secured to the shirt band. n y
Another object of my invention is to provide a collar button of the above character wherein the back and wings or tongues may be secured and assembled with the shank of the button in one operation.
'lo enable others skilled in the art to fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention that they may embody the saine in the various modifications in structure and relation contemplated, drawings depicting a preferred forni have been annexed as a part of this disclosure and in such drawings, similar reference characters denote correspondin parts throughout all the views, of which,
Figure l is a front view showing` the collar button in the buttonhole of a shirt band.
l'1 igure 2 is a side View showing the collar button, the shirt band being shown in section.
Figure 3 is a. sectional view showing the assembly of the collar button.
Figure l is a view of the blank, being shown .in section.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, rdesignates the shank and 6 the head of the conventional type of collar button, saidI shank being-provided with a reduced end 7 which may be riveted or stamped to the the shank annular b-ack 8. My invention proper comprises and is formed of a substantially rectangular blank 9, having rounded ends ll), which blank is formed with a depression l Vof a diameter to receive the shank above referred to. The reduced portion '7 of the shank extends through an aperture in the n depression lO so that the back 8, shank 5 and the wings or tongues 9 may be assembled and formed in one operation. In practice, the tongues or wings 9 are slightly curved, being substantially the width of the back 8 so that the said wings may be passed through the buttonhole 11 and when the shank is given a quarter turn, the collar button will be secured to the shirt band in the manner well understood. If so desired, the shank may be secured to the back 8 in vany other manner as manufacturing necessities may require, my invention being limited to the form and arrangement of the tongues or wings 9, mounted on the shank in spaced relation to the top face of the back 8, thus permitting the inner fold ll of the neck band to lie beneath the tongues.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of partieularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts wit-hout departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is A collar button comprising a shank having a head and back at each end thereof, said shank being reduced at one end thereof, a blank formed with a central depression and outwardly extending wings spaced from the back, said reduced portion of the shank eX- tending through an aperture in the central depression.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature IVILLIAM NAIDA. [11. s.]
