Description

A. McCRAKEN.
Harness.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ASA MCORAKEN, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
,IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS.-
Speciication forming part of LetterslPatent No. 154,266, dated August 18, 1574; application tiled February l0, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ASA MCORAKEN, of
Manseid, in the county of Richland and state of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Harness; and I do hereby` declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specication.
My invention relates to improvements in harness; and the invention consists in certain improvements in the breast-iron and its connections with the other parts of the harness, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of my improved breast-iron. Fig. 2 is a plan View, showing the breast-iron connected with other parts of the harness.
A represents the breast-strap, composed of a folded piece, a, and two pieces or loose layers, B is the neck-strap. E represents the breast-iron. It is formed with six loops. The forward loop, e, receives the pole-strap; the under loop, el, receivesthe martingale that extends to the bellyband; the side loops, e2, receive the forward ends of the loose layers a' a of the breast-strap, and the upper loops, e3, receive the forward ends of stays g, connected with the straps B', which latter extend back vand connect with the coach-pad.
By this arrangement and construction of the loops of the breast-iron it is made to form a connecting-link between the belly-band, the pole, thecollar, and neck-strap, and (through the strap B' and coach-pad) with the backstrap and crnpper, thereby bringing the strain of the back draft to bear on all these parts without undue pressure on any one part of the ASA MGGRAKEN.
