Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED LINSEL, OF FOREST CITY, MISSOURI.
IMPRovEMl-:N'r |`N Doon-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of letters Patent No. 154,262, dated August 18, 1874; application filed July 2o, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED LINsEL, of Forest City, county of Holt and State of Missouri, have invented certain new-and useful Improvements in Adjustable Door-Stops, of
which thefollowing is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the construction andcombination of a casing having a shank terminating in a curved or spurvstop, showing the interior of the casing. Fig.
2 is a side view of the same, the casing being in longitudinal section.v
' A represents a casing, `of any suitable form or dimensions, cast or otherwise,'and provided with projections or ears a avfor screws to pass through to fasten it to the door. Through the lower end of the casing A .passes a square shank, B, fto the lower end of which is either formed or attached a curved or spur-shaped arm, C. The outer or lower end of this spur is forked, and in the` same is placed a roller or wheel, D, which may be of rubber, metal, or
any other suitable material. The upper end 4of the shank B is formed with a round stem, b, which extends up through the top of the casing, and is within the casing surrounded by a spiral spring, d, which Vexerts the necessary pressure to force the wheel D tight enough against the iloor, thereby holding the door more or less open, as desired. The front of the casing is ext-ended above the top, through which the stem b passes, and on the front side of the stem, between it and the extended casing-front, is pivoted a cam, G, provided on one side with an arm or handle, H. By means of this cam and arm the shank B, with its spur and Wheel, may be raised up and held so that the wheel will be above the iioor. The wheel is readily thrown down again by simply reversing the cam.
The outer end of the arm or handle H may be provided with avcrank, so that the doorstop can be raised and loweredby the foot, if desired.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, in a door-check, of a cam, G, and handle H, with the casing A, stem b, spring d, shank B, curved or spur-shaped arm C, and wheel D, all constructed and arranged substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto affix my signature this 16th day of July, 1874.
FRED LINSEL.
