UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIcE.
HENRY l". STRUSS, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
DOOR-CHECK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 442,759, dated December 16, 1890.
Application filed June 19, 1890. Serial No. 355,942. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that'I, HENRY \V. STRUSS, a
resident of the city, county, and State of Newwall, so as to limit its compression of the spring, as hereinafter more fully described.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein Figure 1 represents a top view of one form of the bufier; and Fig. 2 is a top view of the buffer, showing it between two doors.
Referring to the drawings, the letter A represents the body of the door or footb0ard of the wall, as the case may be.
13 B are bolts, by which the spring 0 is secured to the door or foot-board A.
The spring 0 is made of steel, rattan, or any other analogous material, steel being preferably used. The spring 0 is secured at the point a to one of the bolts B, and curving around in an arc is passed through the eyein the other bolt B, Which is an eyebolt, from the outer side to allow the spring to contract to an unlimited extent by running through the said eye, and thus obviating the danger of the spring breaking when the door is slammed against it. The free end of the spring is thus contained in its own loop, and requires no special cover to prevent it scraping the door or the frame.
My buffer operates to protect the wall, or, as shown in Fig. 2, to preventthe knobs of two doors swinging toward each other from knocking together.
Therefore, having described my invention, what I claim is In a door buffer or stop, the combination of the screw-fastener B and independent screweye B, with the curved spring 0, said spring being rigidly secured to the fastener B and passed through the eye B from the outer side, its free end being contained within said loop, substantially as described.
HENRY XV. STRUSS.
