Description

May 19, 1925. 1,538,713
W. MGMEANS TIE HOLDER AND COLLAR FASTENBR Filed Oct. 31, 1923 ITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented May 19, 1925.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM MCMEANS, OF SGRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
TIE HOLDER. AND COLLAR FASTENER.
Application filed October 31, 1923. Serial No. 672,002.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM MGMEANS,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tie Holders and Collar Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wearing apparel, and contemplates the provision of a tie holder designed to hold the tie associated with the collar when the latter is removed from the neck band of the shirt, and also has reference to means for holding the meeting ends of the collar closely associated, or in other words, to prevent spreading of the top of the collar so that the tie will remain properly positioned.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings,
the invention residing in the construction,
combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a View of the collar showing the ends fixed together, a portion of the collar being broken away to show a part of the invention.
Figure 2 is a detail view of the collar fastening element.
Figure 3 is a detail View of the buckle.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 indicates a collar of well known construction upon one end of which a tie is adapted to be supported in any suitable manner. This end of the collar is provided with an additional button hole 11 for use-in connection with a collar fastening device to be hereinafter described.
In carrying out the invention, I provide a collar fastening device which is used for the express purpose of holding the free ends of the collar closely associated at the top thereof, after the collar has been secured [0 the neck band of the shirt in the usual manner, with a view to giving the tie a neat appearance, by holding the tie always in a proper position on the collar. In other words, the collar from spreading at the [op thereof, which of course gives the tie an untidy appearance, inasmuch as the tie is arranged at one side of the collar. This collar fastening means consists of an elastic tape 18 equipped with a buckle 19 at one end, the buckle being provided with a headedstud 20 received by a button hole 21 formed in the under fold of the collar as shown. By reason of this arrangement, bile elastic tape 18 is wholly concealed from View between the folds of the collar, the tape being extended in thedirection of the free ends of the collar and carrying at its free end a loop 23 adapted to receive the head of a collar button 24: adapted to be positioned in the button hole 11 above referred to. The tape 18 is of course under tension while in use, and tends to hold the meeting ends of the collar closely associated adjacent the top thereof for the purpose above mentioned that is to maintain the tie in proper position on the collar, and thereby always presenting a neat appearance.
lVhile it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily ap parent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, 1 claim:
The combination with a collar having a button hole arranged adjacent one end thereof, and a button hole arranged at the side of the collar and in the inner fold thereof, of a button arranged in the first mentioned button hole, an elastic tape adapted to be arranged between the folds of the collar, a loop carried by one end of the tape and adapted to receive said button, a buckle arranged at the other end of the tape, a headed stud projecting from said buckle and adapted to be received by the second mentioned button hole at the side of the collar for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
