' KOLLER PRACTICE CARTRIDGE Filed 00f 31. 1923 Fg-Z ?atented May 19, 1925.
PATENT JOSEF KOLLER, OF LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND.
PRACTICE CARTRIDGE.
Application filed October 31, 1923. Serial No. 672,616.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnr Konnnn, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Lucerne, in the Canton of Lucerne, Republic of Switzerland. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Practice Cartridges of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved means for enabling miniature cartridges to be used in rifles and other small-arms, said means being of a very simple structure and affording the use of miniature cartridges in rifles and other small arms in a very etlicient manner. With these objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which like numerals designate like parts Fig.- 1 is a longitudinal section of a means for using rim firing cartridges and Fig. 2 is a partial similar section of a means for using centrally firing cartridges.
In Fig. 1 a is a bi-parted tubular bushing or lining designed to fit the chamber of a rifle or other small arm and upon which tightening rings 2') of leather or other material are placed. The front portion of the bushing or lining has a reduced cylindrical projection 70 upon which the back portion 0 of the bushing or lining is axially movable and of which the portion 0 may be removed. The removable back portion 0 has a narrow bore to receive the miniature cartridge 6 and a Wide bore to receive a plug 9 having two projections h at its forward end for contact with the rim of the cartridge 6 upon the actuation of the striker 2' of the fire arm on the plug 9. The back portion 0 also has a groove at its rear end which is adapted to be engaged by the extractor (not shown). When the breech bolt of the fire arm is drawn backwardly, the back portion 0 is removed from the projection k of the front part of the bushing, so that the spent cartridge may be easily removed and a fresh cartridge insorted, whereupon the back part will be pushed forwardly upon the projection 76 by the breech bolt. The front portion of the bushing occupies this position as long as shooting with miniature cartridges is de sired.
In the modification shown by Fig. 2 the projection 7c of the front portion of the bush ing is elongated and adapted to receive a centrally firing cartridge d hat I claim is:
h Ieans for enabling miniature cartridges to be used in rifles and other small-arms, comprising a bi-parted tubular bushing designed to fit the chamber of a small arm including a front portion having a reduced cylindrical projection, and a rear portion slidable on the projection and removable therefrom, the rear portion. also having a bore to receive a cartridge and an annular 7O groove adapted to be engaged by the extractor of the rifle so that the back portion may be withdrawn from the front portion when the breech bolt of the rifle is retracted.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEF KOLLER.
I/Vitnesses HERMANN HUBER, A. F. OALvonN.
