UNITED STATES WALDEMAR KOPS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.,
ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO
NEMO CIRGLET COMPANY, INC., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
BRASSIERE.
Application filed January 5, 1922. Serial No. 527,070.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VALDEMAR Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county and State of New York have invented an Improvement in Brassieres, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a brassiere and more particularly to that type of brassiere comprising a front member and a back member both having extensions adapted to be passed and overlapped at the sides of the body and to be suitably adjusted and secured in position thereon. In this type of garment difficulty has been experienced in maintaining the position of the axillar parts of the garment when in a sitting or leaning forward position. This is due'largely to the fact that in this type of garment the lower edges thereof are securely fastened around the waist of the wearer and are substantially fixed in position, while the upper portions of the overlapping axillar parts of the garment are relatively free and when the body is in any position except an erect position there is a tendency of these upper portions of the overlappin axillar parts of the garment to be separated and become disarranged. Now the object of my invention, therefore, is to overcome these difficulties and in so doing I preferably provide the outer or overlapping portion of the back member or the extension thereof with a part which continues the upper edge of this portion of the garment and is made to conform to the under arm section of the body and tobe suitably attached to the adjacent portion of the underlying part or extension of the front member of the garment, it being understood, however, that these provisions may be reversed without departing from the nature and spirit of my invention. The brassiere made in accordance with my invention will be hereinafter more particularly described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating the use of a brassiere made in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the garment showing the parts thereof in substantially flattened condition.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating another form of the invention, and
Fig. 4. is a view similar to Fig. 2 illustrating in elevation the form of invention shown in Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, my improved brassiere, as in other garments of this type, includes a front member and a back member 11.
These members may be suitably stayed or,
reinforced and the front member is fitted with extensions 12 and 13 to which are attached suitable tie strings 14 and 15 respectively. Also as indicated, the lower front central portion of the front member may be with extensions 18 and 19 and the exten-' sion 18 is fitted with a strap 20 and the extension 19 with a similar strap 21, these straps having a hook and eye or other connecting attachment associated therewith in order to connect the back member around the body of the wearer. Also as indicated, the front and back members are connected by straps 22 and 23 adapted to extend over the shoulders.
I also employ a strap or tape 24c suitably connected at one end to the edge or a'portion of the back member adjacent the edge thereof. 'As illustrated this connection is made at the upper portion of the extension 18 and the free end of the tape 24 is fitted with a hook 25. Adjacent the edge of the corresponding front member and preferably above the extension 12 thereof I employ a reinforcing strap. 26 in which there i is a series of eyes or eyelets 27. The parts of the garment on the opposite side-thereof are similarly constructed, there being included a strap or tape 28 secured at one end adjacent the upper end of the extension 19 of the back member, which strap at its free end is fitted with a hook 29. Also adjacent the edge of the front member at this side of the garment above the extension 13 there of, there is a reinforcing strap 30 fitted with a series of eyes or eyelets 31.
By referring to Figs. 3 and 4, it will be seen that in carrying out the invention the back member may be provided with auxiliary extensions, the upper edge of each of which continues the upper edge of the back member and is adapted to conform to the under arm section of the body of the wearer.
In these figures of the drawing, on one side of the garment, the auxiliary extension is indicated at 32. The upper edge 33 thereof, as hereinbefore stated, is a continuation of the upper edge of the back member. At its extremity this auxiliary extension is fitted with a hook 34:. In a suitable position along or adjacent the edge of the front member on the corresponding side of the garment there is a reinforcing strap 35 in which there is a plurality of eyelets 36 or similar openings in any one of which the hook 3a is adapted to engage in adjusting the parts of the garment to position on the body of the wearer. Similarly on the other side of the garment there is the auxiliary extension 37,
the upper edge 38 of the same forming a continuation of the upper edgeof the back member and at the extremity of the auxiliary extension there is a hook 39. At this side of the garment also along or adjacent each of the front members is a reinforcing strap 40 in which there is a series of eyelets oi other openings 41 in any one of which the hook 39 is adapted to engage. It will be understood that these auxiliary extensions 32 and 37 are connected to the body portion of the back memberand to the extensions thereof by suitable lines of stitching, a portion of each auxiliary extension overlying a portion of the corresponding extension of the back member. p
In the use of that type of garment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, after the same has been placed over the head of the wearerthe tapes lt and 15 are passed around the waist and tied at the front to adjust and secure the front member in position. Then the extensions of the back member are drawn forwardly and the free ends of the straps 20 construction being such that the tapes 24 and 28 conform generally to the under arm section of the body of the wearer and the parts being thus connected the axillar portions of the garment are adequately maintained in position on the'body. The form of garment shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is used and adjusted in a similar manner, with the exception, however, that the upper edges of the axillary extensions are fitted to conform to the under arm sections of the body, whereas in the use of the tapes these must necessarily more or less shape themselves to this section of the body.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a garment of the class described, a front member, a back member, the said front and back members having extensions adapted to overlie each other at the sides of the body of the wearer, the said, extensions in both sides of the garment having portions in their upper edges adapted to conform to the under arm section of the body of the wearer, and means for adjusting circumferentially of the arm pit of the wearer the up per portion of one of the said extensions on each side of the garment and connecting the same to the adjacent extension to maintain the overlapping extensions in position on the body of the wearer.
2. In a garmentof the class described, a front member, a back member, the said front and back members having extensions adapted to overlie at the sides of the body ofthe wearer and the extensions of the back member each having a section at the upper edge of the front and back members in position on the body of the wearer.
Signed by me this 19th-day of December, 1921.
