Th s invention relates to a brasslere andmore particularly to that type of' brasslere which is constructed to function not only-as a corset cover but also as a support for parts of the body of the wearer. :The brassiere made in accordance with this invention'is so constructed that when adjustedto position it acts as acorset cover and also as a support for the busts of thewear'er, and furthermore as a resting device for the small of the back' of the wearer, atthe same time producing a flattening front effectwhich is so much in vogue at present. In carrying out the invention,'the brassiere is preferably made'to comprise a front member composed of a plurality of sectionsand a back member which is connected to thefront member by' shoulder straps together with extensions leading from the lower portions of the side sections of the front mem'bera'nd extensions leading from the lower side portionsof the back member so that the extensions leading from the front member are adapted to be passed around the waist of the wearer and adjusted to position to cause the front mem ber to act as a support for the busts of the wearer and thoseportions'of the extensions coming at the rearof the body to act as supports for the back of the'wearer, while the extensions ofthe back member which; I

As illustrated, the section 13 of the front member is provided with a lower or waist line extension 27 and similarly the front section 14 is provided with a lower or waist line extension 28 adapted to extend part way around the waist of the wearer. Secured to the extremity of the extension 27 is a tape 29, and secured to the extremity of the extension 28 is a similar tape 30. In the back member of the garment the section 17 thereof is provided with a lower or waist line extension 31 secured thereto as indicated along lines of stitching 33 and similarly the back section 18 is provided with a lower or waist line extension 32 secured thereto by lines of stitch ing 34 or otherwise. As will be readily understood, the extensions 31 and-32 may be integral parts of the back sections 17 and 18 respectively instead of being made in separate parts as herein shown and described; At the extremity of the extension 31 the same is fitted with a band 35 of any suitable material made adjustable in length and fitted with a hook member 36. Similarly at the extremity of the extension 32 the same isfitted with a band 37which may also be adjustable in length and fitted with a loop member 38 adapted to be engaged by the hook 36. In order to maintain the front member in position, that is to prevent the same from riding or working up on the body of the wearer, the same, as illustrated, may be provided centrally in the lower edge thereof with a tape or other extension 39 which. also may be adjustable in length and is fitted with an attachment 40 having therein a hook '41 to engage an eyelet in the underlying corset body or other garment of the wearer, and also an eye 42 which may be employed to engage with a stud on the steel of the underlying corset. Either one of these devicesor other devices maybe employed as hereinbefore stated for maintaining the front portion of the garment from shifting or working up on the body ofthe wearer. p I

In the use of the garment as hereinbefore described, the same is first placed on the body of the wearer passing the head through the opening 26. This isdue, as will be understood, becauseof'the possibility of so shaping the garment by the variationof the sizes of the front sections12, 13 and 14 together with the conformation of the edges 1 by which the same are joined as to make the front member conform to the body of the wearer whatever the size and conformation of the same may be so as to distribute the pressure in adjusting the garment to position without localizing the same and thereby causing or tending to cause any ill or injurious effects which excessive pressure is likely to cause when localized by a corset or brassiere. been thus adjusted the extensions 31 and 32 of the back member are extended part way around the waist of the wearer so that these back member extensions'overlie portions of the extensions of the side sections of the front member, and the hook 36 is causedto engage the loop 38 to complete the adjustment of the garment to position and maintain the same in place on the body of the wearer. As will be furthermore understood,

the tension or pull placed on the front member extends to the back member through the shoulder straps, while the counter pull or tension on the back member in adjusting the same to position acts in the other direction,

through the shoulder straps to some. ex: tent, at least, to assist in maintaining the garment in place; and also that thehook 41 or the eye 42 may be caused to. engage a loop or stud in a garment or on a corset steel to maintain the front member in place so as to prevent the garment from working up on the body of the wearer.

I claim as my invention:

1. A brassiere comprising a front member made to conform to the body of the wearer and having extensions adapted to be adjustably positioned around the waist of the wearer, one of said extensions being of sufficient length to overlie the small of the back so as to act as a supporting device for the back of the wearer, and a back member connected to said front member at its upper portions by meansadapted to extend over the shoulders of a wearer and having extensions leading therefrom at its lower outer parts adapted to extend to and to be adjustably secured in position around the waist of the wearer.

2. A brassiere comprising a front member having central and side sections stitched together so as to conform to the body of the wearer with extensions leading from the lower outer parts of the side sections adapt ed to be adjustably connected together about the waist of the wearer, said extensions leading from said side sections at such an angle that a draft thereon at their ends around the waist will cause a substantially straight downward pull upon said central section and a transversely diagonal pull across the front member thereby causing said member to produce a front flattening effect and to serve as a support for the busts of the wearer, said extensions of the side sections having means thereon whereby they may be adjustably connected together and one of said extensions being of sufficient length to overlie and thereby support the small of the back of the wearer, and a back member connected to the front member at its upper outer portions by means adapted to extend over the shoulders of the wearer and having extensions leading therefrom at its lower outer parts adapted to extend to. and to be adjustably secured in position around the waist of the wearer.

3. A brassiere comprising a front member having central and side sections stitched together so as to conform to the body of the wearer with extensions leading from the lower outer parts of the side sections adapted to extend to and to be secured in position about the waist of the wearer, said extensions leading from said side sections at such an angle'that a draftthereon around the waist will cause a substantially straight downward pull upon said central section and a transversely diagonal pull across the front member thereby causing said member to produce a front flattening effect and to serve as a support for the busts of the wearer, tapes connected to said extensions adapted to be passed around the waist'and the shoulders of the wearer and having ex-' tensions leading therefrom at the lower outer parts thereof adapted to extend to and to be adjustably secured in position around the walst of the wearer.

A brassiere comprising a front member made to conform to the body of the wearer and having extensions adapted to be adj ustably positioned around the waist of the wearer and leading at such an angle from said member at its lower outer portions that a draft on the ends ofsaid extensions will produce a composite straight downward and transversely diagonal pull upon the front portion thereby causing the same to producea front flattening eifectand to serve as a support for the busts of the wearer, one of said extensions being of sufficient length to overlie the small of the back so as to act as a supporting device for the back of the wearer, and a back member connected to said front member .at itsupper outer portions bymeans adapted to extend over the shoulders of-a wearer and having extensions leading therefrom at its lower outer parts adapted to extend to and to be adjustably secured in position around thewaist of the wearer.
