1 Claim.
This'invention' relates to new and useful improvements in corsets, girdles, surgical bands, breast supporters and the like, .and more particularly to a novel fastening and adjusting means therefor.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a supporter such as a corset, girdle, surgical band, breast supporter or the like having novel fastening and adjusting means which may be operated and controlled by the wearer at or toward the front of the support.
Another object of the invention is to provide a supporter of the character described wherein the fastening and adjusting means is constructed and arranged to provide additional support to the wearer.
More specifically the invention has for its object the provision of a supporter of the character described embodying or having novel means for holding or securing the lacing and supporter in the position to which adjusted without the necessity of knotting or tying said lacing and which is readily accessible to the wearer.
These and other objects of the invention and the various features and details thereof are hereinafter fully set forth and described in conjunction with the embodiment of the invention shown in the accompanying drawing; in which Figure 1 is a front elevation View showing the supporter embracing a wearer after it has been adjusted and fastened.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation view showing the supporter in a more or less open or loosened relation.
Figure 3 is a View similar to Figure 2 showing the supporter after it has been tightened and fastened; and
Figure 4 is a view in perspective illustrating certain details of the construction and arrangement of the fastening and adjusting means.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the supporter, which may be a corset, girdle, surgical band or the like, is designated generally by the reference numeral I and in the embodiment shown comprises a main body band I I which may or may not have an auxiliary strengthening band l2 superimposed thereon, a reinforced abdominal supporting member 13 being located at the front portion of the supporter and secured to the bands I l and I2 by any suitable means such as stitching. As shown in the drawing, tape or straps l4 have their lower end portions secured to the lower opposite sides of the member l3 and these extend a short distance upwardly and outwardly from said member l3 to a point approximately midway of the band l2 where their extremities are secured together with buttons or like elements l5, the purpose for which will be described in detail hereinafter.
The junction or jointure of the supporter Ill 5 is usually, though not necessarily, located centrally of the rear or back thereof and comprises reinforced end members l6 and I! as well as an intermediate member l8. The end member I6 and the intermediate member l8 are fastened 10 together by hooks l9 carried by the former which engage eyes 20 on the latter, and said end and intermediate members I! and I8 are connected or fastened together by means of a lacing string 2i which is interlaced through eyelets 22 and 23 provided along adjacent edges of the members I! and I8.
In accordance with the invention, the lacing string 2| is continuous or endless and is interlaced through the eyelets 22 and 23 inwardly from the uppermost and lowermost thereof so that doubled loop portions indicated by reference numeral 2Ia may be drawn in opposite directions through an adjacent pair of eyelets 22 and 23 in the manner best shown in Figures 2 and 3 25 of the drawing, thus pulling the lacing string tight throughout its length with resulting closing of the gap or space between the members I! and I8 and tightening of the supporter.
After the doubled loops 2la of the lacing string have been drawn toadjust the supporter to the desired degree of tightness about the body of the wearer, these doubled loop portions 2la are then brought laterally around said supporter to the front thereof where each is wrapped one or more times about one of the previously de scribed button or like elements I5 in the manner shown in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawing.
Engagement of the doubled loop portions 21a of the lacing string 2| about the button or like elements IS in this manner securely fastens the supporter in the position to which adjusted, and after being thus secured the ends of said loop portions 21a may be tucked out of the way over the upper edge of the belt or band ll or I2 in the manner shown in said Figures 3 and 4. This disposition of the loop ends also acts to prevent disengagement thereof from the said button or like elements IS.
The provision of the upwardly diverging tapes or straps l4 in addition to providing added strength and support for the button-like elements 15 also function to give some additional upward lift to the abdominal member l3 thus giving added support to the wearer at that point, and s5 this added support will be increased or decreased according to the extent that the supporter proper is tightened or loosened upon the body of the wearer.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the present invention enables relatively easy and rapid adjustment and fastening of supporters of the class described, and it will be observed that its construction and arrangement, with no unduly protruding parts, permits the wearer to wear thin, close fitting clothing with no noticeable bulges, lines or other surface distortion.
While description of the invention has been confined to a particular form of supporter, it will be obvious that the said invention may be applied to supporters of the general class including corsets, girdles, surgical bands and the like, with such changes and modifications as are within the scope of the annexed claim.
I claim:
A supporter comprising a body embracing band having adjacent end portions each provided with a row of eyelets and arranged to overlie the body of the wearer, an endless lace passed between and through corresponding eyelets in said end portions so as to form a loop extending outwardly 1 cured to the outer surface of said band at opposite sides of the front center thereof and beneath which any portion of said loops are adapted to be wrapped, the wrapping of said loops beneath said fastening elements frictionally retaining said wrapped portions of said loops in Wrapped position, thereby securing the body embracing band in the position into which adjusted by said loops.
