"UNITED STATES I 1,536,445 PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY F. MAUPAI, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO SACKETT & WILHELMS CORPORATION, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
DISPLAY DEVICE FOR BOTTLES AND THE LIKE.
Application filed April 24, 1924. Serial No. 708,637.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. MAUPAI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices for Bottles and the like, of which the'tollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to display devices and particularly to such devices of the class specified as are adapted for erection on the necks of bottles or the like.
The object of my improvements is to pro- 'vide a display device of the character specified of simple construction and having-features of strength and rigidity over similardevices known to me.
To these ends my improvements comprise features illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the drawing accompanying this specification, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective elevation of my improved device erected in display position 26 on a bottle. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my device spread out flat. The scale of Fig. 1 is about three-eighths size and that of Fig. 2 is about one-half size.
While it is recognized'that several types 0 of display devices adaptedfor erection on bottles are known, none which are known to me have side-wing members interlocking with the body of the display and by which construction great rigidity and strength are imparted to the device whereby its life is prolonged and whereby a neat and trim appearance is maintained.
My improved device comprises display member 2, which may have a decorative con- 40 tour, as. shown. Formed partly from the lower portion of display member 2, Fig. 2, and projecting .therebelow are flaps 3 and 4. Uppervflap 3 is preferably formed entirely from display member 2 and is articulated 4 ghrlalreto along. transverse line 5. Said flap cular in shape and located about in the mid- I jdle ofsaid flap. Said flap preferably termlnates downwardly within the lower margm ofdis' lay member 2 and is articulated to flap .4't erebelow, along transverse line 7. Flap .4' is preferably; of greater vertical heightjthan flap 3 and has opening 8 there through, preferably of oval shape, thfi long ig. 2.
as opening 6 therethrough, usually cir-" Extending oppositely from flap 4 are wings 9, 10, respectively, preferably triangular in with slots 11, 11, respectively, when the device is erected in display position.
In erecting the device wings 9, 10 are folded backwardly, flap 3 upwardly and flap 4 downwardly and slots 11, 11 slipped over ears 14, 15, respectively, whereby flaps3, 4 are held rigidly in place relatively to display member 2 and wings 9, 10 form boxlike sides to the triangular structure thus erected. The device may then be placed on the bottle, Fig. 1, where it will be rigidly sustained in display position, the edges of penings' 6 and 7 engaging the neck of the bottle.
I claim:.
1. In a display device of the character described the combination of a display member, a flap formed from the. lower portion of said display member and articulated at its upper edge thereto, a second flap articulated to the lower edge of said first flap, said flaps being provided with means for engaging a bottle on which the device is erected. and opposite wings articulatedto the side edges of said second flap, said display member having opposite inreaching ears and said wings being adapted to engage said ears respectively.
2. In a display device of the character described the combination of a display memher, a flap formed from the lower portion of said dis lay member and articulated atv its upper edge thereto, a. second flap articulated to the lower edge of said first flap, an opening in each of said flaps the edges of which are adapted for engagement with a bottle on which the device is erected, opposite wings articulated to the side edges of said second flap, said display member having opposite inreaching ears, and means on said wings for interlocking with said ears respectively.
3. In a display device of the character described the combination of a display memher, a flap formed from the lower portion of said display member and articulated at its upper edge thereto, a second flap articulated to the lower edge of said first flap, an opening in each of said flaps the edges of which are adapted for engagement with a bottle on which the device is erected, opposite wings articulated to the side edges of said second flap, said display member having opposite inreaching ears cut from Within the rectangle of said first mentioned flap and below the opening therethrough, and a slot through the lower portion of each of said wings, saidslots being adapted for interlocking with the inreaehing ears of said display member.
4. In a display device of the character described the combination of a display memher, a plurality of flaps one of which is articulated to said display member and another hingedly connected to said first flap, opposite Wings articulated to the side edges of one of said flaps, said display member having opposite inreaching ears and said Wings being adapted to engage said ea 5; re spectively, and means on said device for engagement with a bottle on which the device is erected.
In witness whereof, I hereby afiix my signature this 21 day of April, 1924.
HENRY F. MAUPAI.
