' This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in paper boxes, and has especialerence to that type of box which will serve as a container and also can be effectively used v v 5 115a display carton. More'particularly this" invention relates to a box the design of ,which may be varied togrepresent a number of objects, but which in this embodiment of .the invention ,is designed'in the form of a 1 house.
A. feature of the invention is the sliding panel in the front of the box simulating a sertable' through-the roof panel, of the box A 1 and extendingthere'above, by means 'of which the sliding panel :13; be operated; v Tho invention be more fully understood from the following descriptiontaken in connection with'the accompanying draw-.
7 2o h1g8, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out and clearly defined in the claims at the clpse of-the'specification.
Inthedrawings: L
. Fig. 1 is a plan .of, a blank formed of a 7 at single sheet of paper ready to .be folded into a box embodying the invention,
showing the interengaging flaps by which the bottom may be closed,'and a Fl .4 is a top view, partially cut away of g f the olded box prior to engaging the roof as anel and display tab, showing the top closed y means of interengaging fla s.
p Referring now to the drawings, the blank is cut out andcrease'd so as to form the main body ( portions 1, 2, 3 and 4, said blank b81115 sides and an of the fdlded box. Adjacent 4Q the ends 3 and 4 on the upper side are the folds 5 and 6; each havinga; longitudinal other, as will ex lained hereinafteran on the lower side t e folds 7 and 8. A

having at its free end the extension or sliding panel 10 provided .with the to front edges respectivel of t e closure.
e mem- I bers ll and 12. The purpose of e exten- "rarna Box. 7
sion 10 be explaiiied'hereafter. panel 9'.has a medial slot 13 .extendin ina direction parallel with 'the creased e go of the panel. Adjacent the back 2 on the lower side is the flap 14 having sli s 15: therein to receive a hook flap. This hoo flap 16 having.
the tongue portion 20 is provided ad'acent the lower edge ofthe front panel 1. n the the panel 1 is a panel ll'having at its upper extremit a tab 18, which isicut to a width which wil permit it to be readily inserted through the slot 13in panel 9; Panel door. Another feature is the display tab inupper side 0 19 extending vertically part way across its face. Adf'acent the outer end v dge of the back pane 2 is a glue flap 20 adapted to over lap the free edge 'of the'end 4 and when glued thereto to maintain the box in folded posi ion. e
When the box is folded along the creases provided therefor, the folds 7 and 8 are bent upwardly in overlapping position, and are heldin place'by the interengaging bottom flaps 14 and-16, the tongueportion 20'of fold 16'being inserted in the slits 15 provided 4 therefor in the flap 14. The box is closed at the top by the interenga'ging flaps 5 and 6,
each of which is slit, as shown in the draw-- ings so that they may been ed 'formin v fin the box i a relatively secure closure.
in. folded position, the; anel 9, which isof' considerably greater wi th than the box, and the panel 17 extend upwardl at the rear guild 0 tab 18 is then mserte through slot 13, and the free edge of panel 9 drawn down so that the tongue members 11 and 12 on extension 10 may be inserted in the slits 19'provided therefor in the front of thepanel 1. The
completel folded box as. will then eformed;v
The roof panel. 9-is of suficient' width so that after the'd'oor anel 10 has been inserted in the slits 19' ro'vi shown inFig. 2;
a therefor it will extend L well above" e'top 'ofthe' closure. Iffthe'j panel is creased medially along the line or a slot 13 the two halves of the panel, thus formed 7 will incline upwardly toward the median line in the manner :ofaroof. Since I the panel 101s slidably mounted in the slideway formed by the slits 19 the roof panel may be collapsed and the tab 18 bent.,over along Jitsline of union with panel 17Iso han;
folded boxes when filled may be shipped in a minimum of space.
It will beobvious that the box may be restored to the desired, form simply by pulling the tab 18, thus raising the roof panel 9 to its arched positionand causing the panel 10 to move upwardly in the slideway 19, thereby giving the effect of an open door in the front panel.
I-t-is to be noted that all of the exposed portions ofthe container when set up are on the same side of theunfolded blank, so that it is necessary to use a stock coated only on pne side of the paper, and that the printing or ornamentation is all placed on the same side. All portions of the other face of the blank will be concealed when the box is set What I claim is: c
