IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-BOSOM SUPPORTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,444, dated July 28, 1874 application filed June 13, 1874,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH M. MAURER, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt Bosom Stays or Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it perta ns to make and use it, reference being bad toihe accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
'My' invention relates to an improvement in stay's'or supporting-frames for shirt-bosoms, anda method of attaching the bosoms thereto. In the drawings, Figure l is a front view, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of my invention.
Said invention is composed of a continuous unbroken piece, A, shaped as shown in the drawing, so as to fit the neck, breast, and lower part of the chest. The frame A,formed as described, is made, preferably, of vulcana ized rubber, or gutta-percha, or of metal, or
other suitable substance, covered with gutta-- are so placed that the-frame A can be sprung into them, and retain the bosom upon itself by its own elasticity.
It will be obvious that the bosom O can be readily removed and replaced upon the frame A when necessary or desirable. It will also clearly appear that my device combines lightness, durability, and economy, inasmuch as the frame, with its attached and independent bosom may be placed over a soiled garment, giving all the appearance and advantage of a clean shirt, likewise preventing the bosom from being mussed while worn.
I claim as my invention- 1. As a new article of manufacture, the shirtbosom support, consisting of the elastic frame A, formed in one piece, and provided with the lugs or buttons B B, as and for the purposes specified.
2. In combination with the frame A, formed as described, and provided with the lugs or buttons B B, the separate and independent bosom 0, adapted to be retained upon the frame A by the elasticity of said frame, substantially as and for the purpose described.
