The lugs 11 preferably are spaced apart a distance slightly greater than the distance between the remote faces of the ears 9 sothat the member 4 will besupported with one of the ears 9' against the inner face of one of the lugs 11 and the other car 9 against the inner face of the other lug 11 when the member 4 is swingingly supported upon the plate 12 in the manner just described, whereby the member 4 and the plate 12 will reinforce each other to acertain extent while not precluding swinging movement of the member 1n respect to the plate 12. A line extending through the centers of the openings in the ears 9 is substantially parallel to the axis of the sleeve or eye member 8.
The plate 12 preferably is substant ally T-shaped and is provided with openings 13 for the reception of screws or like fastening devices 14, whereby the attaching plate 12 may be secured to the jamb or other portion of the window frame 1 so that the axes of the sleeve or eye member 8 and of the pintle 10 will be horizontal. When the attaching plate 12 is secured to a jamb of the window frame as illustrated in Figure 1, the member 4 will be swingable vertically in parallel adjacent relation to one of the window panes 3. An adjusting screw 15 which threadedly engages the wall of the opening of the sleeve or eye member 28 is connected at its end proximate to the window pane by a ball and socket joint indicated at 16 to-a cap or holder 17 for a presser head 18. The latter is formed of a compressible resilient material, such as rubber. A look nut 19 adjustably engages the screw 15 and may be moved against the outer end of the sleeve or eye member '8 to lock the adjusting screw to the sleeve or eye member. A wing nut 20 threadedly engages the outer end portion of the adjusting screw and may serve'as a handle for manipulating'the screw when the lock nut 19 has been moved out of engagement with the sleeve or eye mem From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. The adjusting screw 15 may be manipulated to cause the presser head 18 to press firmly against the pane 3 and thus to brace the pane against pressure or stresses applied against the side or face thereof opposite the pressehead 18. Moreover, the engagement of the presser head 18 with the pane will tend to hold the latter and the sash therefor against movement relatively to the window frame although 1t Wlll be apparent that the adusting screw may be manipulated to release the pane from the presser head so that the sash may be slid vertically or otherwise adjusted in an ordinary manner. The provision of the ball and socket joint at 16 insures that the presser head 18 will press;
firmly against the pane 3 when the adjusting screw has been tightened even though the pane 3 may extend in a plane not exactly at right angles to the axis of the ad-' justing screw 15. A brace '21 is pivotally attached at one end to the arm 4, as at 22, and is engageable at its other end with any one of a vertical series of indentations 23 in the plate 12 for the purpose of support ing the arm 4 in raised position and at any one of a plurality of angular relations to the perpendicular.
Obviously, my invention is susceptible of embodiment in forms other than thatfillustrated in the accompanying drawings and I therefore consider as my own all such modifications and adaptations of the form of the device herein described and claimed as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. A device of the character described comprising an arm, means whereby said arm may be swingingly supported at one end to extend in proximity to a paneof said window, a brace pivotally attached at one end to said arm and adjustably engageable at its other end with said supporting means for holding said arm in raised position and in adjusted angular relation to the vertical, a presser head adapted to engage with said window pane, an adjusting screw threadedly engaging said arm and movable axially toward and away from the plane'of said window pane, and a ball and socket joint connecting the ends of said screw which is proximate to said window pane and said presser head, whereby said presser head may be moved to and from position to engage said window pane.

A, device of the character. described comprising an arm, means whereby said arm may be swingingly supportedat one end to extend in proximity to a pane of said window, a presser head adapted to engage with said window pane, an adjusting screw threadedly engaging said arm and movable axially toward and away from the plane of said window pane, and a ball and socket 'oint connecting the end of said screw which is proximate to said window pane and said presser head, whereby said presser head may be moved to and from position to engage said Window pane, said presser head comprising a body made of a resilient compressible materia 3. A device of the character described comprising a supporting member of trussed elongated frame-like construction, an at caching plate attachable to a frame member of a window, means whereby said supporting member may be hinged to said attaching plate to swing in proximity to a pane of the window, said supporting member being formed with a sleeve at the free end thereof, the axis of said sleeve extending substantially at rightangles to the plane of said window pane, a screw threadedly engaging the inner Wall of said sleeve, a presser head flexibly attached to said screw at the end of the latter proximate to said window pane, and. means whereby said screw may be locked to said arm in adjusted position in respect to the latter. v
