PERIODICAL HOLDER.

Application filed September To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WVILLIAM G. LLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Periodical Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates toperiodical holders and the like, and is fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the periodical holder opened up showing a pcriodical in place;

Fig. 2 is a similar view of the inner hinged section with the periodical removed;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 33, of Fig. 2;

Figs. 4 and 5 are partial sections on the lines 4 and 5, of Fig. 2; and

Fig. 6 is a partial enlarged end view of the holding clip.

The embodiment as illustrated consistsof the magazine holder comprising a back A and the front and back covers B and C, re spectively. These are flexibly secured together by means of sheets 10 and 11 of cloth, leather, and the like. i

The central or back section A carries a rigid member 12 which is preferably integral and is secured to the section A by means of rivets 13. The upper end of this member has an extension let which is preferably made Z-shaped and has an opening 15 there in through which is passed a-rod 16. The end of this rod is secured therein by means of a knob 17.

The opposite end of this rod carries a similar knob 18 and is adapted to be caught and held by the notch 19 in the upturned end 20 of the lower end of the member 12.

Pins or spurs 21 are secured in the member 12 as shown in Figs. 3 and 5 and are of such a length as to maintain the rod 16 sprung against the bottom of the notch 19.

into this holder, the operator grasps the knob 18, forcing it down and out of the notch 19. It is then swung from the horizontal position shown in Fig. 3 to a vertical position, which is permitted by the curved opening 15. The magazine D is then inserted and pressed down firmly over the pins 21. The rod 16 is then brought down and snapped into notch 19 and is firmly held there-in by means of the pins 21 when only a pamphlet or periodical is inserted. or by means of the magazine itself where the body of the magazine is quite thick.

WVhile I have shown and described but a single embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as possible in view of the prior art.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A removable holder for periodicals and the like comprising a rigid back, a pin secured intermediate the length of said back,

a rod pivotally secured at one end to said back, and a catch secured to said back, so located as to permit the outer end of said rodto spring thereunder and over the end of said pin when the rod is moved over said pin whereby said pin holds the rod under said catch.

2. A emovable holder for periodicals and the like comprising a rigid back, a plurality of pins secured intermediate the length of said back, a rod pivotally secured atone end to said back, and av catch secured to said back, so located as to permit the outer end of said rod to spring thereunder and over the outer ends of said pins when the rod is moved over said pins whereby said pins hold the rod under said catch.
