CHARLES L. DAHLBERG, OF' DES'MOINESjQIOWA.
NOTEBOOK HOLDER.
Application filed September 30,1925... SeriaLNo. 59,493.
The object of my invention is to provide a note book holder of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, and in connection therewith improved means for easily and quickly detachably securing the note book in position.
A further object is to provide in a note book holder of that type having a number of staples for securing the book in position by entering suitable openings in. one end, improved means for closing or locking the ends of said staples.
My invention-consists in the construction, arrangement and con'ibination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects conten'iplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an edge view of my improved notebook holder.
Figure 2 is a plan view of one end of the same in which my improved device is mounted.
Figure 3 same.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one end of the note book holder showing the manner in which my improved device is applied thereto.
The note book holder comprises a body portion formed rectangular and preferably of light composition material, having at one end a sheet metal plate 11 which extends transversely across the upper face of the member 10. The ends of the member 11 are folded over the side edges of the member 10 and slightly under its bottom side as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4:. This provides means for anchoring the plate in position. The upper surface of the plate 11 is provided with a pair of staples 12, one end of each of said staples being rigidly secured to the plate. The other end extends over and beyond the end of the body member 10.
For closing the staples 12 I have provided a slide plate 13 of a length equal to the width of the body portion 10, and has each end provided with an upwardly extending portion 14: which terminates in an inwardly extending portion 15. Said members 14 and 15 are folded to form channels 16 which are slidably mounted on the end of the member '11, with the plate 13 adjacent to the under surface of the body portion 10.
is an inverted end view of the Mounted onthe upper surface o-fthe meme provided with a; pair of openings 19 which are in al-inementwith the free ends of the staples 12, so that when the plate 13 .i-s slid inwardly the inclined portion of the plate 17 may be pressed downward-la until the openings 19 have passed beneath. the free end of' the members 12, at which time the plate will spring upwardly, causing thez free ends of the members 12 to enter the openings 19 and the plate 13 limited against inward or outward movement, and at the same time closing the staples 12.
Thus it will be seen that when it is desired to place a note book in position on the staples 12, the inclined portion of the plate 17 and the outer edge of the plate 1.3 are grasped between the thumb and first finger and the plate 17 pressed downwardly, after which the plate 13 may then be slid outwardly and entirely removed from the body portion 10, after which the note book may be placed in position with the staples 12 entering suitable openings provided for that purpose, which is common to most all loose leaf books. The plate 13 may then be placed in position on the outer end of the member 10 in the manner clearly shown in Figure 4, and then pressed inwardly in the manner before described, and resting in the position illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
Thus it will be seen I have provided a note book holder of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, in which the note book may be easily and quickly removed and a new one placed in position. This device is especially adapted for holding loose leaf note books.
I claim as my invention:
1. A note book holder comprising a body portion, staple members, one end of each of said staple members being rigidly secured to one end of the body portion and having their outer ends overhanging, a plate slidably mounted relative to the end of said body portion and beneath the free ends of said staples, a spring plate secured to said sliding plate and having its outer edge inclined upwardly and outwardly and provided with openings designed to receive the free end of said staples when the plate is moved to its inner limit of movement.
2. A note book holder comprising a body portion having at one end a staple member, one end of said staple member being secured to said body portion and the other ends overhanging the end of said body portion, means for closing said staple member comprising a plate slidably mounted on said body portion, and means for locking said plate against inward or outward movement when in a closed position.
3. A note book holder comprising a body portion having at one end a number of staples, one end of each of said staples overhanging the ends of said body portion, means forclosing the ends of said staples comprising a plate slidably mounted beneath the overhanging ends of said staples, the inner face of said plate being provided with a spring plate, the inner edge of which secured to said slide plate and its outer edge inclined upwardly and outwardly, the outer edge of said inclined portion being provided .ward or outward movement.
4. A note book holder comprising a body portion having at one end a number of staples, one end of each of said staples overhanging the ends of said. body portion, means for closing the ends of said staples comprising a plate slidably mounted beneath the overhanging ends of said staples, the inner face of said plate being provided with a spring plate, the inner edge ot which is secured to said slide plate and its outer edge inclined upwardly and outwardly, the outer edge of said inclined portion being provided with an opening for each of said staples, said openings being designed to receive the free ends of said staples when moved to a certain predetermined position of movement and to lock said plate against inward or outward movement, the outer edge of said upwardly ainl outwardly inclined portion being provided with a reinforcing flange.
