T. G. LOVEGROVE MAGNETIC SHARPENER FOR RAZOR AND OTHER BLADES 7 Filed Aug. 4, 192
/////////V////A ///////A/// INVENTOR:
Patented Mar. 10, 1925.
THOMAS G. LOVEGBOVE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
vIIAGN'E'IIC SHABPENEB FOB RAZOR/AND OTHER BLADES.
Application filed August 4, 1922. Serial No. 579,773.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS G. Lovnenovn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Magnetic Sharpener for Razor and Other Blades, of which the following is .a specification.
My invention has for its object the sharpening of razors and blades of other imple,
ments having cutting edges on their opposite sides, the invention consisting of means whereby said cutting edges may be simultaneously made uniform and sharpened.
' To this end, I employ a'plurality of magnets or magnetic poles which are in proximity to said edge so that the action of the magnets on the latter serve to attract and remove from said edges any existing jaggedness or irregularity which dull the same and so render the edges uniform and likewise serving to sharpen the same, this being accomplished without the use of sharpening stones or the like, hones, strops, etc., for
. such purpose.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims. Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a magnetic sharpener for razor and other blades embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents a longitudinal section on line 2 Figure 1, the lid of the casing of the cevice being in closed condition.
Figure 3 represents a transverse section on line 33 Figure 1, the lid of the casing of the device being in closed condition.
Figure 4 represents a transverse section similar to Figure 3, of another embodiment of my invention- Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawing,
1 designates a casing in which is contained on opposite sides thereof, the separate magnets or magnetic poles 2 which are placed parallel with said sides.
Between said magnets or magnet poles is placed a series of blades 3 which are imposed on each other at a r ght angle to the magnets 2, said blades having opposite cutting edges 4 which are in proximity to the inner faces of the magnets 2 whereby both cutting edges of each blade will be subjected simultaneously to the attraction and influence of said magnets, so as to remove from said edges any jaggedness or irregularity thereon and so render them uniform throughout their length and sharpen the same, thus obviating the use of sharpening stones or the like, hones, strops or the like for such purposes. v
The blades are supported within the easing on the block 5 which is imposed on the false bottom f the casing 1, said block having rising therefrom the studs or pins 7 which are adapted to enter the spacing openings or slots 8 in the blades and so hold the latter uniformly on each other and consequently in the casing.
In Figure 4, the. magnets or magnetic poles 2 are joined on their lower ends by the magnet member 9, which is continuous of side magnets 2 making a comparatively U-shaped magnet which accomplishes the same purpose as said side magnets 2, which are separate, as has been stated.
A blade as above sharpened may be removed from the studs and consequently from the casin when it is ready for use for shaving or other purposes requiring the same.
As a number of blades may be simultaneously sharpened, I place between them and the block 5 insulating material and form the posts or pins 7 of insulating material by means of which the blades are insulated from each other and from said block and so each blade edge is subjected by itself to the attraction of the opposite magnets, said attraction thus not being lost on said posts and block.
2. In a device of the character stated, the
combination of a base member, posts carried thereby and adapted to pass through openings in the bodies of double ed ed, thin safety razor blades, a pluralit o opposed magnetic poles arranged in su stantial par- Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- 1 ters Patent, is 2- allelism to said posts, said poles being joined thereto, posts on which said blades ate at theiredges so as to form a horse shoe strung, a support for said posts, and a conmagnet. I tainer for said sgfport blades and ma nets. 3. In a device forsharpening bladeseach THO AS LOVEGROVE. 5 having opposite cuttin edges and spacing Witnesses:
openings, a plurality 0% magnetic poles, one JOHN A. W'inmmsnnzm,
for each of said cutting edges, in proximity N. Bussmemz.
