Description

Juy 17, 1934. R, CLICK 1,967,113
RAZOR HONE Filed Sept. 7, 1933 Patented July 17, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in hones for straight razors and has for some of its objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly eicient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manuiactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the sevl5 eral views, and Whereinz- Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a hone constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a View in vertical logitudinal section through one end portion of the hone.
Figure 4 is a view in vertical transverse section through a portion of the hone.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an elongated lat plate 1 of magnetized razor steel having cut therein a plurality of parallel, longitudinal grooves or channels 2 for providing a plurality of longitudinal sharpening bars or ribs 3.
In the use of the hone, the razor blade is drawn transversely, or substantially transversely across the upper edges of the ribs or bars 3 and said blade is sharpened by said ribs or bars in a manner which is thought to be readily apparent, the upper corners of the ribs or bars being sharp for accomplishing this. By reason of the fact that the plate 1 is magnetized, the dust or particles which are removed from the razor blade are drawn into and retained in the grooves or channels 2.
If desired, the plate l may be provided with longitudinal slots extending entirely therethrough, instead of grooves or channels as illustrated in the drawing. Further, the grooves, channels or slots may be arranged as desired in the plate, as will be apparent.
It is believed that the many advantages of a razor hone constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed isz- A razor hone of the class described comprising a substantially fiat plate of magnetized steel having a plurality of parallel grooves therein, slightly spaced apart and opening out through one face of the plate to form a plurality of spaced, parallel bars, the side walls of each groove being straight to provide right angle corners at the side edges of the bars for engagement by a razor as the same is drawn across the plate.
