Description

June 8 1926. I 1,588,322
T. M ADQO RAZ OR BLADE SHARPENER Filed April 4 192 NNNNNN OR TTTTTT EY Patented June 8, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
mom mm, or rnrnannnrnm, rnxxmvmur RAZOR-BLADE manna.
Application fled April 4, 1924. Serial in. 704,237.
This invention relates to a razor blade sharpener, and an object of the invention is tof'provide ade'vice'for sharpening safety razor blades which will efiectivel sharpen the cutting edges of the blade without the use of a strop, hone or the like, and by means of which the blade may be sharpenedwithout manual labor.
More specifically, the invention comprehends the provision of a holder for the razor blade which is magnetized so that the magnetic attraction of the holder will act on the Y extremely fine and sensitive cuttin edge of the razor blade for returning to their normal positions any minute portions of the cutting edge which might have'been displaced during the shaving operation, thereby resharpening the blade by the magnetic action of the magnetized holder and eliminating the undesirable results occasioned by improper honing or stropping of the blades, and also materially reducing the cost of the using of safety razor blades in that the useful life of an individual blade will be materially prolonged.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detail description, and in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure l is a perspective view of the improved holder showing it in blade supporting position.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the parts of the holder showing them separated or open.
Figure 3 is a cross section through the holder with a blade therein.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved razor blade sharpener comprises a-carrying body 1 which is constructed of any suitable metal which may be magnetized. The body 1 is provided with a longitudinally extending central slot 2 extending inwardly from one end, as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings, to provide the spaced arms 3 and 4, which are connected one to the other, by the'body 1. The arms 3 and 4 when the body is magnetized, form the respective north and south or positive and negative portions of a permanent magnet, so as to providethe proper magnetic action on a razor blade, as indicated at A. The body 1 has upstanding flanges 5 extending along each of its edges,
which flanges are magnetized, owing to the fact that they are formed integrally with the body and they are disposed directly outward from the cutting edges of the razor blade A for drawing outwardly into their proper portions into the edges any minute particles of the cutting edges of the blade A which may be forced inwardly by the shaving operation; while the magnetic action of the arms 3 and 4 will draw any minute particles of the cutting edges of the blade laterally into. place, which particles may have been displaced during shaving. It must be taken into consideration, that the cutting edge of a safety razor blade of the Gillette type or analogous razor blade is extremely fine and thin, and that it will not require any very great amount of magnetic action to bring the minute particles of the edges displaced by shaving, back into their normal positions and that when brought back into such normal positions, the blade is substantially in the same condition that it was in before use, and consequently, it is resharpened for continued use.
If it is so desired, the rectangular block 6 may be provided for placing upon the blade A, as shown in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawings, to hold the blade fiat in case the blade is slightly warped.
In use, all that is necessary is to properly dry the moisture and remove any foreign material from the blade A after it has been used, then place it upon the body 1, spanning the slot 2, and place the block 6 thereon and simply leave it until it is desired to use it again for shaving, when it will be found that the blade has been properly sharpened.
It is, of course, to be understood, that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations, and therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner, except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
What I claim is A razor blade sharpener comprising a flat metal body provided with a central longitudinal slot, said body being magnetized and adapted to receive a razor blade at flatwise engagement thereon, and upstanding flanges along the side edges of said block to prevent lateral displacement of the blade.-
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
