IMPROVEMENT IN WORK-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,883, dated July 7, 1874 application filed March 16, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. TUNIs, of I 7 forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation; Fig. 2 is a top view.
The invention relates to that class of devices which are intended to facilitate the holding of ladieswork, so that it may be gradw ally and intermittently moved in an easy and convenient manner.
The invention will first be fully described in connection with all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a knee-pad or piece of my de vice which hangs over the knee of the lady who uses the work-holder; and B a rod, by which it is connected with a head-piece, 0, having the flange c, and containing preferably, a needle or pin cushion upon the top thereof. D is a clamp fitting loosely about the rod B supported on a spiral spring, E, and
provided with arms (1 d, which embrace a table or stand, to which the workholder is attached. F is a clamp-screw working in a thread of the lower arm (I. G is a spool= holder, which may loosely surround the rod D and rest upon the piece A.
The application is as follows: The clamp D cl being secured to a table or stand the lady presses lightly with her knee against the pad or piece A, therebycarrying the flange 0 above the upper arm d. She now inserts her work and proceeds with her operations, touching the piece A with her knee when and as often as she wishes to move her work along.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A work-holder, consisting of knee-pad A, rod B, head 0, having flange 0, clamp D, hav= ing arms 01 d, and the spring E, all arranged as described, to enable a person to unclose the holder by a slight movement of the knee, in the manner described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 2d day of March, 1874.
WVM. W. TUNIS.
