Description
F. O. GATES GARMENT SUPPORTER March 10. 1925.
Filed Feb. 29, 1924 INVENTOR FT WAN KLI N O. CHTE HTTOIRNET.
Patented Mar. 10, 1925.
UNITED STATES FRANKLIN O. GATES, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
GARMENT SUPPORTER.
Application filed February 29, 1924. Serial No. 695,898.
, To all whom it may concern.
Be it known thatI, FRANKLIN O. GATES, a citizen of the United States oi America, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Supporters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to an improvement in garment supporters and has for its object to provide a supporter consisting of a single piece of wire formed to grip a button of the supported garment and to provide a bite having the capacity or engaging and holding a double thickness of the fabric of the supporting garment.
Drawings.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the supporter of my invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the supporter in place upon the wearer.
Description.
The supporter of my invention is formed as shown of a. single piece of wire, whose terminals must be blunted to avoid tearing the garments of the wearer, and are preferably blunted by being formed into terminal loops 3 and a.
Adjacent the terminal 3 is the looped button-grip eyelet 5, normally in a horizontal position when in use, and intended to grip the button A of? the supported garment.
shown in the drawings and having the capacity of embracing two thicknesses of the lflbllC of the supporting garment.
Mode of operation.
The supporting garment in connection with which my invention is peculiarly adapted for use is a coat-shirt having the front flaps D and E. The grip 5 being engaged with the button A of the wearers trousers, the bite 7 is engaged with both of the overlapped flaps D and E or" the shirt C, at such height as is desired for the proper suspenson of the trousers.
By the application of my supporter as shown, a single supporter suflices to properly suspend the wearers trousers, and this is accomplished without injury to the fabric of the wearers shirt inasmuch as the bite 7 ens gages with two thicknesses of that shirt at the point of the greatest strength of the fabric.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A garment supporter consisting of a single piece of wire having blunt terminals, a horizontal button-grip eyelet and a vertical bite,
substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto atfiXed my signature.
FRANKLIN O. GATES.
