Description

F eb. 24. 1925.
s. T. BRAGG ET AL TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER Filed Sept. 22, 1922 ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 24, 1925;
UNITED s'rATas PATENT OFFICE.
SILAS T. BRAGG, OF ASTORIA, Am ARTHUR R. ILLING, OF LONG ISLAND CITY,
NEW YORK.
' TOOTHIBRUSH HOLDER,
Application filed September 22, 1922. Serial No. 589,884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SILAs T. BRAGG and ARTHUR R. ILLING, citizens of the United States, residing at Astoria and Long Island City, respectively, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toothbrush Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toothbrush holders and has for its primary object the provision of a device of this character which will operate to support and house the brush when not in use and to thoroughly ventilate the brush and to subject the same to the action of light rays so as to thoroughly dry the bristles after the brush has been used.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a holder consisting of a housing having means for facilitating the application of the brush thereto or removal of the same therefrom and for locking the brush to the housing when theformer is' in a supported position.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a brush holder which will include a bracket arranged and designed to support a number of the holders side by side and in a compact manner.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention resides in the certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly 85 pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder showing same attached to its bracket and illustrating a brush in its supported position. i
Fi re 2 is a vertical section therethrough showing the position of the brush when its removal from the holder is desired.
(I Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 but showing the brush in the position shown in Figure 1.
Fi re 4 is a transverse section taken approximately on the line 44 of Figure 1.
In carrying the invention into practice, we employ a housing 5 consisting of an outer cylindricalbody 6 provided at its sides with cosure caps 7-7. Each of these caps is provided with a transparent wall 8 whereu by light rays are permitted to enter the housring 17 the same having a circular or otheringfor a purpose to be hereinafter explained. The transparent walls 8 of the caps are provided with suitable perforations 9 to permit air to enter the housing and to circulate around the bristles of the supported brush so as to dry the bristles after the brush has been used. i
The housing is provided at one side with lugs 1010 having flanges 11 adapted to enter the longitudinal grooves 12-12 of a supporting bracket 13. This bracket may be secured to a wall or suitable support and its construction serves to permit several of the holders to'be arranged side by'side in a, compact manner, W
The housing 6 is provided with a substantially key-hole shaped slot l l'having its restricted branch 15 located at one side of the housing and terminating at the base thereof. The circular branch 16 of the slot terminates at a point approximately in a horizontal plane with the axis of the housing. Mounted in the housing so as to freely revolve is a brush locking and supporting wise suitably formed opening 18 which is adapted'when the ring is in one position of adjustment to register with the circular branch 16 of the slot 14 whereby to permit the head of the brush to be inserted into the housing so as to occupy a position immediately between the transparent perforated walls 8 of the aforesaid caps 7. After the brush is made to enter the housing as described pressure in a downward direction is applied against the ring so as to cause the handle of the brush to occupy a depending position. When the ring is in this position the opening 18 is partly closed by the walls of the restricted portion 15 of the slot 14 and incident thereto the brush is operatively supported against accidental derangement from the holder. When it is desired to use the brush it is simply necessary to lift its handle in an upward direction until it engages with the top wall of the circular branch 16 of said slot 14. The opening 18 of the revolving ring 17 is then in registration with the branch 16 and by drawing outward upon the brush it can be quickly and conveniently removed from its housing.
The ring 17 is provided with ventilating perforations 19 which register with the branch 16 of the slot 14; when the brush is in a supported position. These perforations together with the perforations 9 and transparent walls 8 permit ample air and light to enter the housing and to circulate around the bristles of the brush so as to dry the bristles after the brush is used thereby preserving the life *of the brush and maintaining the same in a sanitary condition.
When several of the holders are arranged side by side in the same bracket 13 they may be suitably identified from each other. This may be done by numbering the housings or by providing transparent walls 8 of distinguishing colors.
While we have described what is deemed to be the most desirable embodiment of our invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way de arting from the spirit of our invention, an we therefore do not limit ourselves to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to-anything less than the Whole of our invention limited only by the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is A toothbrush holder com rising a-housing having a key hole shape slot extending from a point approximately in a horizontal plane with the axis of said housing to a key hole slot in said housing when the ring is in another position of adjustment, said brush co-acting with the walls of said opening for revolving said ring.
In testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures.
SILAS T. BRAGG. ARTHUR R. ILLING.
