INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. CLAY, JR., AND ROBERT E. A. DORR, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TICKET-CLASPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 152,549, dated J une 30, 1874; application lcd February 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM W. CLAY, Jr., and ROBERT E. A. DORE, of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented, made, and applied to use a new and useful Clasp 5 and that the following is a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specication, and to the letters of' reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a View of the clasp attached to an order of dance. Fig. 2 is a view of the clasp,'showing more particularly the construction of the same.
In the drawing' like parts of theinvention are pointed out by the same letters of reference.
The nature of the present invention consists in the construction, as more fully hereinafter set forth, of a clasp to be used in connection with orders fof dancing, for the purpose of holding the same, and allowing them to be attached to the dress or coat of the lady or gentleman using them; thc object of the invention being to provide a ready and simple means for carrying out the purpose intended.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will describe the construction and operation ofthe same.
A shows a holder, formed ot' any suitable material, and provided upon its under side with a pin, a, and upon its upper side with the rings b, through which a pencil, B, may be inserted. Upon the rear side of the holder A are placed the tubular projections c, through which are passed the ends of the wire connection D, by which the holder A is connected to the hook E, provided with a clasp-pin, e, to fasten the same upon the apparel of the wearers,'and allow the holder A to be connected or disconnected, as may be desired.
Such being the construction, the operation is as follows: The pin a ofthe holder A is inserted in the order of dance Gr, and the ends of the wire-connection D are inserted in the tubular projections c, and the upper portion of the connection D is passed over the hook E, the pin c of which is inserted in the apparel of the wearer.
When desired, a pencil, B, may be placed beneath the rings b of the holder A.
It will be observed that by the use of the clasp, as described, an order of dance may be conveniently held and attached to the dress of the lady or gentleman, and may be detached or disconnected at the option ofthe wearer.
Having now set forth our invention, what we claim as new is- The combination of the holder A, having a clasp-pin, a, with the wire extension D and the hook E, provided`with a clasp -pin c, as and for the purposes set forth.
HENRY W. CHIPMAN, CHARLES A. CRANE.
