rATnnT FRANK HonsoN, 0FNQKQMISQELLINOISQ DRILL snrnon'r;
Application filed July 9, 1921. Serial No. 433,483. I
To all whom it may} concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK HonsoN, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Nokomis, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drill Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to supports for drills and has for its principal object to provide a support capable of holding a drill in various positions while the same is being used.
With the foregoing general objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and unique combination of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the support,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow,
Figure 3 is a horizontal section taken through the support on the line 33 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow,
Figure 4 is a detailed horizontal section taken on the line H of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow, and
Figure 5 is a vertical section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the frame consists of the two parallel standards 1 which are adapted to normally extend vertically and are connected at their ends by means of the cross bars 2. My drill support or carrier is slidably mounted on the frame formed by the standards 1 and cross pieces 2. This carrier comprises the slidable clamp 3 which is provided with curved extensions 4 and 5 for grasping the standards 1. As will be noted in Figure 3 there is a space provided be tween the extensions 4 and the post 1 for receiving a wedge key so that the slidable clamp may be securely prevented from movement in relation to the standards when so desired. A second slidable clamp 7 is situated on the standards below the first clamp 3 and is also provided with the curved extensions 8 which are connected by a bar 9. Another wedge key 10 is disposed between one of the curved extensions 8 and one of t e nd rds 1 f r the p p e of fixi this slidable clamp to the frame when so desired. 7
A saddle 12 is provided at one end with a curved lip 13 forming a sleeve for receiving the U-bolt 14 which is attached to the first slidable clamp 3 and thus this saddle 12 1s pivotally connected to the clamp 3. A
pair of spaced curved lips 15 are provided at the other end of the saddle 12 and form sleeves for receiving the pin 16 to which are pivotally attached the rods 17. Theother ends of the rods 17 are pivotally connected to the rod 9.
A pair of dogs 19 are suitably mounted in the first slidable clamp 3 and will be engaged with the wall or other device upon which the drill is being used. If so desired a carriage 20 may be used in connection with the saddle 12 for supporting the drill 21 which may be of any preferred construction and is only indicated by dotted lines in Figure 1.
In use it will be readily understood that,
of the wedge key 6. The angle of the drill may then be adjusted by sliding the clamp 7 to the desired height upon the frame and locking the same in position by means of its wedge key 10.
Obviously, the invention is not limited and restricted to the precise, and exact details of construction as illustrated and described, because it is susceptible of a variety of embodiments, and many minor mechanical changes may be made in such preferred incorporation of the invention without departing from the substance or essence of the invention and without the sacrifice of any of its substantial benefits and advantages.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. In combination, a frame, a pair of slidable clamp members associated with the frame, one above the other, and provided with extensions slidably engaged with the frame, one extension on each clamp member being spaced from the frame, and wedge keys receivable between the spaced extension and the frame for holding the clamp member in position on the frame, and drill supporting means supported by the clamp members.
2. In combination, a rectangular frame, a pair of slidable clamp members mounted on e frame, ne above the th r a ch the frame, Wedge keys lying along one lonformed With curved extensions at their ends on the frame, and drill supporting means engageable with longitudinal portions of supported by the clamp members. 10 the triangular frame, one curved extension In testimony Whereof,I affix my signature of each clamp member being spaced from in presence of two Witnesses.
FRANK HODSON. gitudinal portion of the frame receivable Witnesses: between the spaced extensions and the frame AGNES HARRISON, for locking the clamp members in position P. O. EVANS.
