This invention relates to well pumping apparatus and has particular relation to power surface rod line jacks for connecting the rod line with the power pull rod; an object being to provide a jack by means of which connection may be quickly and easily controlled, or adjustment made to compensate for ex pansion and contraction due to atmospheric causes, and for other reasons.
Vith the above and other objects in View,
the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to I be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated. in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective View of the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective showing the pulling latch.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional View of the pulling latch and illustrating the engagement'of this latch with the rack bar.
I Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 2 but showing the knock-off latch.
Figure 5 is a detail perspective View of the guard.
Referring to the drawings in detail where in like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a rack bar having one of its faces provided with teeth 11. The width of these teeth is less than the width of the bar 10 as shown in Figures 2 and 4 of the drawings. One end of the bar 10 is provided with means indicated at 12 for connection with the rod line and any suitable means may be utilized for this purpose.
Slidable upon the bar 10 is a frame 13 to the opposite sides of which rods 14 are secured. These rods extend through spaced'lugs 15 which project from the frame and are held in place by means of nuts 16. The rods 14 are connected by a clamp 17 and this clamp is also connected to the power pull rod, a portion of which is shown at 18.
Pivotally secured between ears 19 included in the frame 13 is a latch 20 whose free end is adapted to engage the teeth 11 of the rack 5 bar. The pivot of this latch is shown at 21 and alsom'ountedupon this pivot are plates 22 which havepivotally secured between them as shown at 23, an arm 24. .The outer end of this arm carries'a weight 25 while its inner end isprovided with. an angular extension" 26 which is adapted to engage the pivoted end of the latch 20. i
The bar 10 is slidable through a plate 27 which is adapted to be secured to the usual knock-off" post positioned between the well and source of power. This late 27 carries a frame 28 within'which is p votally secured as shown at 29, a latch 30 which is also adapt! ed to engage. the teethfllf of the/rack bar. Mounted upon the pivot 20 are'spaced ears 31 and pivotally secured between theseears as at 32 is an arm 33 which issimilar to the arm 24 previously described. "This arm 33 also carries at one end a weight 34 and at its opposite end an angular extension similar to the extension 26 of the arm 24.
The rods 14 are connected by a bar 35.
Mounted for sliding movement upon the bar 10 over the teeth 11 is a transversely channel-shaped guide 36. This guide is provided with an opening 37 for the passage of the latch 20 and an opening 38 for the passage of the latch 30. A handle 39 extends from the guard. The openings 37 and 38 have one of their end walls beveled as shown be disengaged so that the frame 13 will slide along the bar free. Both of the latches may be disengaged by sliding the guard longitudinally upon the bar so that the 'ends of the latches will engage the upper surface of the guard instead of passing through the openm s.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. In a surface rod line jack, a rack bar adapted to have one end connected to the rod line, means for connection with a power pull rod, a latch carried by the power pull rod connecting means for engagement with the rack bar to adjustably couple the rod line and power pull rod, a relatively stationary knock-ofl' latch engageable with the rack bar, selective means to hold either of the latches in inactive position, and means to simultaneously hold both of the latches inactive.
2. In a surface rod line jack, a rack bar adapted to have one end connected to the rod line, means for connection with a power pull rod, a latch carried by the power pull rod connecting means for engagement with the rack bar to adjustably couple the rod line and power pull rod, a relatively stationary knock-off latch engageable with the rack bar, selective means to hold either of the latches in inactive position, and a transversely channel-shaped member having openings therein for the passage of the latches and slidable over the rack bar to hold both of the latches in an inactive position.
