The conventional baby crib comprises end panels from which are supported therebetween Along the longitudinal vertically extending edges of these end panels are arranged guiderods, the upper ends of which are angled toward the end panels for connection therewith in a plane below the top edges of such panels. On these angled end portions are arranged buffer or bumper springs serving to cushion and limit vertical movement of the side rails. These side rails in the conventional baby crib have their top and bottom horizontal bars provided with openings through which the supporting rods extend and by which the side rails are connected to the end panels for vertical movement with respect thereto. Insuch structure the top bars of the side rails, when the side rails are in an elevated position with respect to the end panels, are disposed in a plane substantially below the top edges of the end panels. Under such conditions the distance between the top bars of the side rails and the mattress is relatively short with the consequent result that a child occupying the crib will in a very short time be able to climb over the side rail and out of the crib. My invention has to do principally with a fixture for connecting the upper end portion of each of the side rails of the crib to the end panels in a manner such that the top bars of the side rails will be disposed in the same plane as the top edges of the end panels thereby adding distance between the top bars of the side rails and the top of the mattress, with the result that it is made substantially difficult for a child to climb over either side rail when such rails are in an elevated position with respect to the end panels.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the novel combinar tion and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by referenoe to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, andin which:

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fixture embodied in my invention showing the same attached to a bar of the side rail and a guide rod of the end panel of the crib.

The several objects of my invention are accomplished by the preferred form of construction shown in the accompanying drawings.

In this connection the baby crib comprises end panels l0 and II. These panels l0 and H .in a

conventional manner support therebetween the mattress and spring of the crib.

Secured along the'longitudinal vertical edges of the endpanels in any suitable manner are elongated vertically extending guide rods E3 the opposite ends of which are angled in a direction toward the end panels to space the intermediate or major portion of the rods from the end panels.

The baby crib further includes side panels l4. Each of these side panels l4 comprises a plurality of equally spaced vertically extending bars l5 having their corresponding end portions joined together by top and bottom bars I6 and ll.

The bottom bars i! adjacent their outer end portions are each provided with transverse openings l8 through which the guide rods 13 project, thus completing slidable connection between the bottom bars it and the guide rods l3.

The top bars I6 of the side panels M are shorter in length than the bottom bars I! so as to dispose their adjacent end portions inwardly and in spaced relation to the guide rods i3.

On these guide rods I3 on their upper angled end portions are arranged bumper or cushion springs l9.

Below the top bar It of the side rail I 4! and in substantially spaced relation with respect thereto are fixtures 20 by means of which a slidable connection is provided between the upper end portions of the side rails and the guide rods [3.

Each of these fixtures provides an elongated body having a medial portion 2| and

end portions

22 and 23. If desirable the medial portion 2| may be reinforced by elongated ribs 24.

The end portion 22 is shaped to embrace the outer bar l5 of the side rail I 4 with which it is associated. This is accomplished by forming the end portions 22 substantially U-shaped in plan view to provide a recess 25 into which the bar l5 snugly fits. This end portion 22 may be connected to the bar [5' by one or more rivets 26.

The end portion 23 is formed to provide a sleeve which slidably embraces the adjacent guide rod !3.

The distance between the top of the fixture 2i] and the top edge of the bar 16 is substantially the distance between the bottom of the cushion spring i9 and the top edge In of the end panel whereby when the side panel [4 is in its elevated position the top bar l6 thereof will be in the same plane as the top edge ill of each of the end panels. By this arrangement I am able to increase, without materially changing the construction of the crib, the distance be- 3 tween the top of the mattress and the top edge of the top bars of the side panels, thereby making it difiicult, if not impossible, for an infant to climb over either of the side panels M.

The side panels I4 are latched in their elevated position in a manner well-known in the art. Such a latching structure is shown in the United States Patent No. 2,282,484. Such latchs Structure has no b dise esed becau e it constitutes no part of the present invention.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations as come within the scope of the appended claims.

A b by ib compr s n nd p nels, side pan s gu d r ds s cur d o the nd pan ls, S e a e s h so pr in a top and botm r nta y extendin bar, the bottom bar vin tran vers openin f rmed therein through which the guide rods extend, the top bar being shorter in length than the bottom bar and disposed between Opposite guide rods of the end panels and adapted to be extended above the up.- per extremites of said guide rods adjacent the top of said end panels, and a fixture connected to each of the side panels below said top bar at opposite sides thereof and comprising a body extending laterally beyond the ends of said top bar from said opposite sides of the side panel and having a sleeve member at one end through which said guide rod slidably extends and having its opposite end terminating in a U-shaped clamp in secure engagement with said side panel said fixture being secured to each of said side panels at a point below and in spaced relation to the top bar of each said side panels.

2. A fixture for connecting the side panels of a baby crib to a guide rod of an end panel of said crib, comprising a medial portion having reinforcing ribs and opposite end portions with one of said end portions providing a U-shaped clamp for a rail of said side panel and the other a sleeve for slidably receiving the guide rod, said fixture being secured to said side panels at a point below and in spaced relation to the top portion of said side panels.
