MAX M. COHN, OF SAN ERANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
DISPENSING CABINET.
Application filed November 1, 1922. Serial No. 598,259.
T0 (.(ZZ w7zom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX M. (JOHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented ncw and usetul lmprovements in Dispensing Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a dispensing cabinet for toilet paper and the like.
The type of container involved herein is shoWn and described in a companion application executed by me of even date herewith, the same being in the form of a cubical container with two compartments, each compartment beinp: capable of holding a package of intcrleaved sheets which are fastened together by a band. The sheets are inserted ihrough an opening in the side wall of the cabinet and are dispensed through a slot in the front Wall.
The present invention has for its object to providemeans for closing the opening in the side of the cabinet through which the packages of paper are inserted; also to effectually look or fasten the closing means in place so that the paper Will be protected against theft and likewise against the entry of dust or dirt.
Une form which my invention may assume is exemplified in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a cabinet embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the sheet of metal from which the cabinet is constructed.
In eneral the present cabinet is like the one 5 own in the companion case above mentioned and consists of a cubical container having two compartments, each adapted to receive a package of interfolded sheets. This container is preferably formed from a single sheet of material, as shown in Fig. 2, there being in the single shoot a front wall 10, top and bottom walls 11 and 12, back walls 13 and partition walls 14. The sheet is folded 'transversely along the dotted fines shown in Fig. 2 to bring the two end portions together at the middle of the back, so that they projiect inwardly toWards the front wall and form a partition, said end walls being fastened in any desired manner to the front Wall. A side wall 15 is preferably made integral with the front wall and bent into closed position and fastened therein, as by means of lugs 16 and openings 17. The front wall has a slot opposite each compartment through Which the paper is dispensed, the package of paper being inserted through the open side of the en container.
In cach compartment is a plate 18 having a slide 19 sliding upon a rivet 20, the latter being positioned to the back wall. The
plate carries a fiange 21 at its outer end which serves to close the opening in the side of the compartment. The edge of the front wall adjacent the open side is beaded or curled, as shown at 22, and likewise the edge of the flange 21 has a head or curl 23 adapted to spring under the beaded edge of the front wall When closed whereby it is retained in place. To spring it out reqires pressure from the inside, and t-his can be done only by inserting the finger through the slot in the front wall, Which, of course,
is not conveniently accomplished When the compartment is filled with paper.
Therefore the described arrangement provides a simple and inexpensive closing and locking arrangement Which will protect the paper against theft or the entry of dust or dirt.
Various changes in the construction and arrangement of the several parts herein a fiat package of interleaved sheets may be inserted and provided at its front midway between the top and bottom of the package with a slot through which the leaves are dispensed and a closure for the open side consisting of a plate slidably mounted for horizontal sliding movement on the interior of the back Wall and carrying a vertical flange to fill the open side while the leaves of paper are being dispensed through the front slot.
2. A dispensing cabinet for toilet:paper and the like comprising a cubical container having an opening in its side through which a fiat package of interlea ed sheets may be inserted and provided at its front centrally of the front of the package with a slot throngh wh-ich the leaves are dispensed, and
a closure for tbe open side consisting of a plate slidabl mounted on the inter1or of the back wal for horizontal movement and carrying a vertical flange to fill the s1de opening while the leaves of paper a re bemg dJspensed through the front slot, sa1d flange being adapted to fit agamst the front wall with some de ce of friction so that to open it pressure W111 have to be exerted in an outward direction.
3. A dispensing cabinet for toilet paper and the like c0mprising a cubical conta1ner having an opening in its side through Wh1ch a fiat package of interleaved sheets may be inserted and provided at its front centrally of the front of the package w1th a slot through which the leaves are dispensed, and a closure for the open side consrst1ng of a plate slidably mounted on the 1ntenor of the back wall for horizontal movement and carrying a vertical fiange t0 fill the side opening while the leaves of paper a re bemg dispensed through the front slot, sard flange being adapted to spring beneath the front wall when closed and to be opened b the pressure of the finger inserted throug the slot.
4. A dispensing cabinet for toilet paper and the like comprising a cubical container having an opening in its side through Whi0h a. fiat package 'of interleaved sheets may be inserted and provided at its front centrally of the front of the package with a slot 'through which the sheets are dispensed and a closure for the open side cons1sting of a plate having a slot slidably fitted on a guide fastened to the back wall of the container for horizontal niovement and carry1ng a flange at its outer end to close the side opening while the leaves of paper are being dispensed through the front slot.
5. A dispensing cabinet for toilet paper rlatively stationar and formed of a single sheet of metal an independently slidable means for closing the opening in each of the compartments while the leaves of Paper are being dispensed through the front slot.
6. A dispensing cabinet for toilet paper and the like comprising a cubicalcontainer having two compartments each adapted to receive, through an opening in the side wall of the container, a package of interleaved sheets, the front wall of the container being provided with a slot opposite each compartment and centrally thereof through which leaves are dispensed, the front, top, bottom, back walls and partition and one side being formed ofa single sheet of metal and slidable means for *closing the opening in each of the compartments, said slidable means comprising a plate slidably mounted on the back wall in each compartment for horizontal movement and having a fiange at its outer end to fill the opening and adapted to spring beneath the front wall whereby to open the said slidable member pressure must be applied at the inside of the flange.
