.3 PLUG PIN.
Apncaon mea January s, 1924. serial No. 684,189.
To all whom. t may concern:
' Be it known that I, ERLTNG METER, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Carl Johansgate 43, Christiania, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plug Pins; and Ido hereby declare the followin to be' a full, clear, and exact description o the invention, such as will enable others skilledv in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The present invention has for its object an improved plu pin of the kind which is generally used or ordinary two-pin plugs for wall sockets and the like; but obviously the pin according to the present invention can also be used for one-pin plugs and plugs with more than two pins.
A plug pin of the usual type comprises an axially slotted pin. These pins have the drawback that the two parts of the slotted pin are liable to be ressed together, and as the material of which these ins have to be made is not very resilient, t is pressing together of the two parts of the pin causes the pins to fit loosely in the socket sleeves, thus giving insuiicient contact and lcauses the formation of arcs which corrode the contact surfaces.
This drawback is avoided according to the present invention by forming the contact .pin of two members which are wound helically about each other with a pitch ap proX-imatelyequal tothe length oft-the pinv and with a certain ings. y
Owing to this construction the two part-s of the pin will be removed from each other at the middle when they are pressed together at the top, and the pressure exerted at the middle of the pin when the pins are play between the windconpletely introduced into their sockets will ten to enlarge theplay between the parts at the top.
The pin according to the present inven`,
It is preferred to make'the pin of one piece of metalrod bent in the form of a l splint, the eye of the splint serving to fasten the connecting wire 6 by means of screw 7.
The invention is, however, not limited to this particular form of pin, as the pin according to the present invention may also 'be manufactured from a solid rod which is split axially to a certain length and the two parts of which are then Wound about each other in the way illustrated.
As itl will be seen the two part-s 1 and 2 ofthe pin, it' prcssedtogether at their free end, will be removed from each other at the middle, and if pressed together at the middle` will be removed from each other at their free end.
Claims 1. A plug pin comprising two members wound helically about each other with a certain play and with a pitch approximately equal to the free length of the plug pin.
2. A plu the middle 1n the formiof a spl-int andhaving its'two ends helically wound about each other with a certain play and with a pitch approximately equal to the free length of the plug pin. j l In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses. y
