J. L. WOLLESON POWDER DUSTER Filed March lO, 1922 ounhullllhvnnunnuilillllllllllk Patented Dec. 30, i924.
NlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PWDER DUSTER.
App'lioaiion inea March 1o, 1922.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, JAMES L. VOLLESON, a citizen of' the United States, residingl at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State oit' Illinois, have invented anew and useful Powder Duster, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to containers.7 and more particularly to pasteboard boxes especially designed for containing powdered substances.
The primary object ot the invention is to provide means to be positioned within a box, prior to the filling' of the same, whereby the box may be used as a bellows tor forcing the powdered material therefrom.
A further objectot the invention is to provide a device ot' this character which may be readily and easily positioned within a box, eliminating the necessity of changing the construction ot the box to position the device.
With the foregoing' and other objects in view which will appeal' as the description proceeds, the invent-ion resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and. claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope ol' what is claimed, without departing from the spirit ot the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a sectional view through a container disclosing` a device constructed in accordance with the present invention as positioned therein.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the spring device.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view ot the device.
Referring' to the drawing in detail, the device embodies a length of wire bent to form an upper section 5 and a lower section 6. The wire is also :termed into an intermediate coiled portion 7 which is disposed between the sections 5 and 6 adjacent to one end thereof.
Each of the sections includes an arm 8 loi-ined with a hook at one end thereof, to grip the right angled portion 9 of the sec Serial No. 542,722.
tion to secure the end of the arm to the right angled portion 9.
An arm l() also forms a part ot' each section, and forms a relatively straight edge to conform to the end wall of al container to closely tit within the same. Aris shown, the
`coiled spring' 11, which is formed integral with the len/th ot wire, is disposed at the inner ends ot the right angled portions 9 so that the coile. portion will lie within a container at a point remote 'from the ends otl the box, permitting' the sides ot the box to be compressed.
From the foregoing' it will be seen that a box supplied with a spring' device ot this character, may have its side walls pressed inwardly to cause material contained in the box to be forced outwardly therefrom, the coiled spring' vl1 acting' to return the side walls of the box to their normal positions. It is to be understood that it is contemplated to employ this device in connection with pasteboard boxes or containers, wherein an opening` may be formed in one end of the container to permit the material to pass outwardly, from the container when the side walls are compressed and released at intervals.
Having' thus described tho invention, what is claimed as new is y In a device of the character described. a container7 a length ot wire bent to provide an upper section and a lower section to be litted in the container, each of said sections including` side members. said length ot wire having portions extendiimi at right angles to the side members7 a coiled portion at Ythe ends of the right angled portions and dis posed between the sections and hook members formed at the ends of the said length of wire and adapted to hook `over portions of the right. angled portions of the wire to.
hold the sections in position.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses. 'y
JAMES LEl/VIS lVOLLESOfN.
