Description

E. EDWARDS.
Harnesss- SaddlezaQy l. N0.]52,O90, Patentedlune16,1874.
ATTURNEYS..
UNTED STATES PATENT OFFICEo EIHYARI) EDVARDS, OF HA'KINSV-ILLE, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESSeSADDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,090, dated June 16, 1874; application filed February 14, 1874.
To au whom 'it muy concern Bo it known that I, EDWARD EDWARDS, of .tiawkinsvillm in the county ot' Pulaski and State of Georgia, have invented a new and v'useful Improvement in Harness-Saddles, of
' vl) D are the thill-loops, connected with the back-strap by the buckles E E. F F are the terrets. Gis the check-rein hook. Thischeckhook and the terrets are attached to plates H, which are each bent or formed with a recess, which admits the back-strap, and is fastened to the top A of the saddle by means of rivets I through their ends, as' seen in the drawings.
This arrangement `allows the back-strap to render or siide on the top ofthe saddle, as it is kept ,securely in position by the loopplates H and by leather loops J J on the sides of the Saddle. The back-strap is made round at these points, as indicated at K K; but it may be dat throughout, if desired.
By this construct-ion the bea-rin g of the thills is equalized on the saddle, as either one of the thills can rise or fall, and are seltadjusting independently of each other. Another advantage is, the back-strap is always in plain sight, and is consequently safer than when made in the ordinary manner, besides being more durable and quite as easily constructed.
rlhe hook and back-strap loop maybe made in one piece, and the hook and terrets are fastened with common or fancy screws.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, on a harnesssaddle, of a flat one-piece back-strap, C, having rounded parts K K, with hook and terrets having re cessed plates H and the loops J J, by which said strap is held in position, and through which it is allowed to slide, as and for the purpose specified.
EDWARD EDWARDS.
