Description

M, V. LOMGSWORTH.
HARNESS PADS.
Patented .11.113118.V 1816.
N- PETERS, PHQTO LITHGRAFHER| WASHXNGTON. D. C.
NITED STATES vllIIItOM V. LOMGSWORTH, OF DELPHOS, OHIO.
IMPRVEMENT IN HARNESS-PADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,930, dated July 1B, 1876; application iiled May'27, 1876.
To all whom t may concer/n:
Bei t known that I, MIROMV. LOMGSWORTH, of Delphos, in the county of Allen and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful lImprovement in Pad-Plates for Harness, of which the following` is a specification:
Figure l is a longitudinal section ot' a harness-pad to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a top View ot' the Sallie.
Y Similar letters ot' reference indicate correspending,` parts.
The object of this invention is to save labor and lessen cost in making harness-pads, while at the same time producing.;- neat, strong, and durable pads. y
The invention will first be described in. connection with drawing, and then pointed o ut in the claim.
A represents the cushion of the pad, the upper side ot' which is covered with a leather' plate, B. K C is the upper or saddle strap. D are two metal plates, interposed between the saddle-strap C and the leather plate B, and extending from the lower end ot said leather plate, or from near said lower end, nearly to the water-hook E. The side edges of Vthe plates D may be bent upward at the side edges' ot' the strap C, to keep the said strap from being drawn out of place. To the lower ends of the plates D are attached, or upon them are formed, loops or rings al', to which are attached the straps F, with which the belly-band straps and the straps that support the traces are connected, so that the movements ot' the traces cannot cause the pad to work upon and chate the horses back. The metal plates D are secured in place by the terretsG and the screws H', which pass through the strap C, the metal plates D, the leather' plate B, and the back of the pad A, and screw into nuts I, placed beneath and secured to the back of said pad. The water-hook E is secured by a screw, J, to
the center ofthe strap O, which is strengthened vby a short strap, K, placed beneath the base ot the water-hook E, and the end parts of which are secured to the said strap O by a few stitches. Upon the rear end ofthe base of the water-hook E is formed the loop c', to receive the back-strap.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with terrets G and screws H, of the upwardlyiianged plates, having end loops forming a part thereof', substantially as and for the purpose specified. i
MIROM V. LOMGSWORTH.
