My present invention relates generally to (100D; holders, ands more particularly to holders for swinging doors arranged to support the doors in open position and in such manner that they may be readily released for closed movement when desired, my object being the provision of a simple inexpensive construction capable of effective and efficient use and adaptable to horizontally swinging doors of various sizes and types.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate my invention and forms a part of this specification z- Figure 1 is an elevation of the inside of a door frame provided with horizontally swinging doors equipped with my invention;
Figures 2 and 3 are vertical transverse sections taken respectively on line 22 and 33 of Figure 1;

Figure 5 is a detailed perspective view of the bracket shown in Fig. 4, and,
Figure 6 is a detail prespective view of one of the door holding levers.
Referring now to these figures, I have shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, a door frame 10, to the sides of which the outer edges of a pair of horizontally swinging doors 11 are hinged as at 12.
According to my invention each door has secured to its inner face a bracket 18 provided with vertically spaced outstanding ears l-l, the ears being apertured as seen at 15, in Fig. 5, for the reception of a pivot pin 16 passing also through a bearing member 17 intermediate the ends of a lever 18. This; lever is extended between the ears ll, as plainly shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, and is of less width than the spaces between the cars 14, and the pivot pin 16 has a loose fit in the bearing member 17 of the lever so that the latter is thus not only swingable on the pivot 16 in a direction parallel to the swinging movement of the door 11, but is also shiftable on pivot 16 vertically or in the direction at right angles to the swinging movement of the door.

That portion of each lever inwardly beyond the pivot thereof is as shown, considerably longer than that portion outwardly beyond the pivot and in view of the before mentioned adaptability of the lever to shift vertically, it is obvious that as the door 11 position of Fig. l to the open position of Fig. 2, the lever will be drawn in an outward direction through the apertured frame bracket 24, as in Fig. 3, the lever at the same time swinging horizontally as it yields with and adapts itself to the opening movement of the door. This movement progresses until the notch 20 of the lever reaches the bracket 22, at which point the inner portion of the lever drops downwardly by gravity so that the notch straddles the lower portion of the bracket and thus prevents further movement of the door 11 in either direction, the door being then latched. The inner cross piece 22 arrests the door in the open position shown to prevent the lever from jumping out of place in case the door is opened in any way vio lently.
lVhen it is desired to close the door it is simply necessary to pull downwardly upon the chain 19 depending from the shorter outer end of the lever so as to rock the lever vertically until the notch 20 is freely above the lower portion of the bracket 24 when it is obvious the door may be again swung inwardly to the closed position.
My invention thus proposes a simple eco nomical arrangement for the purposes set forth, as well as one capable of application to a variety of different types of horizontal swinging doors, such as barn doors, garage doors, and the like and my invention further proposes a construction which may be easily and quickly applied and will be effective, efiicient and durable in use.
I claim l. A swinging door holder including a.
lever having a notch in its lower edge adjalit) cent to one end and a cross piece beyond the notch and having a flexible pull connection at its opposite end, a bracket attachable to a door frame having an aperture through which the first mentioned end of the lever extends, a bracket attachable to a door having vertically spaced horizontally projecting tongues between which the outer portion of the lever extends, said lever having a vertically disposed bearing intermediate its ends, and nearer to its chain carrying end and being of less width than the space between said bracket tongues, and a pivot pin depending through said ears and through said bearing member of said lever, the pin being of less diameter than the bearing member for the purpose described.
