f horizontal position, ory stop means may be lprovided for so holding the plate. The ring 0r hand grip on the end 0i' theV chain may likewise contact with thedoor for preventing theswinging of the plate 8V in its horizontal position.` Also the free end of the plate is preferably curved downwardly, as at 17, so
. that when the door is swung to closed posiwhen swung to closed position and likewise an extremely simple operating means for releasing the latch when the door is to be opened. i
'The latchng means may be arranged at the top or at'the sides of the door, the latter arrangementbeing disclosed by Figures 4 to 7 of the drawings. In these i'igures a single door is employed and is indicated by the numeral `18. This door is hinged, as at 19, to a garage or like building 20. ment strip when in closed position, in Figure 7 of the drawings, is indicated by the numeral 21. The latch construction, in this instance, is horizontally instead of vertically varranged as previously described and the plate 21 that carries the cam element 22 is hinged at a portion of its length, as at 23,
' to the spring carrying vbracket 24 which is secured to the door.
The plate 21 passes through an opening 25 in the door, the side walls provided by this opening being disposed at opposite angles. On the outer end of the plate 21 there is ixed a head member 26 which is round in plan, and this head member, when the door is swung to open position is designed to have one of its sides engaged by an arched spring catch 27 that is fixed by 'means 28 to the outer face of the structure 20. With this arrangement the employment of the pull chain 14C is dispensed with, as the headed vend of the plate which is Vdisposed adjacent to the outer face of the door serves as a means whereby the latch may be f swung to unlatching position, it being, of
course, understood that the head 26' is automatically engagedy by the spring catch 27 when the door is swung to fully open position.
Having described the invention, I claim:
The combination with a structure having a hinged door closing an opening therein, and an abutment strip for the door, of an angle bracket iXedly secured to the door, a plate hingedly secured to one end of the angle bracket, spring means between the plate and the second end of the angle bracket for holding the latter at a right angle with respect The vertical abutto the door, a. cam element adjustably secured on the plate to engage with the strip when the door is closed and means for swinging the plate to bring the cam out of such i RALPH MOODT.
