C. B. TATHAM.
Sample-Gases for Shot.
No.15l,937. I Parenredlunegnsm.
. L "o, I 12 Wtnep/e I Invewtor UNITED STATES PATENT CEEIcE.
CHARLES B. TATHAM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAMPLE-CASES FOR SHOT.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,937, dated June 9, 1874; application filed March 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES B. TATHAM, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kin gs and State of New York, have invented a new and use! ful Improvement in Sample-Cases for Shot; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
Heretofore samples of shot have been put up for exhibition in glass bottles, round or square, which, from their shape, orfrom the irregular thickness of the glass, cause the shot, or some of them, to be magnified, so that their true size could not be determined without removing them from the bottle.
The object of my invention is to exhibit shot by sample without distorting their appearance or magnifying their size, and also to exhibit a regular series 0f sizes at a view, Without exposure to handling; and to this end my invention consists in a sample case or box constructed with a series of recesses for receiving boxes having transparent plates, beneath which the shot are placed, as will hereinafter be described.
In the drawings the ligure represents my sample-case for shot.
The sample-case I is preferably composed of two hinged sections, so that the case may be closed, and each section is provided with a series of cells or recesses covered by lat plates d of glass, beneath which the shot are placed which it is desired to exhibit.
By this means I can exhibit, side by side, a regular series ot' samples of shot of diir'erent sizes, in order that they may be distinctly seen and compared with each other, and the shot are exhibited in their true size without being distorted or magnified.
I claim as my invention- A sample-case for shot, substantially as described, constructed with a series of cells or recesses, having transparent faces or plates, beneath which the shot are placed, as and for the purpose set forth.
CHAS. B. TATHAM.
